CNN All Access is not an upcoming service: CNN launched it in the United States on October 28, 2025, and Amazon added it to Prime Video on June 18, 2026. The launch fits CNN’s broader digital push, announced alongside a 2025 restructuring that included about 200 planned job cuts. But the available reporting does not show that All Access caused those cuts, and a widely cited ratings comparison concerns inauguration coverage—not the service’s subscribers or CNN’s overall current audience.
What CNN All Access includes
CNN announced the U.S. launch of All Access for October 28, 2025. The package included selected live U.S. and international programming; more than 1,000 hours of CNN Originals; current CNN Original Series and CNN Films available the day after their television airing; on-demand video, special features and live events; and articles through CNN.com and the CNN app. CNN said current pay-TV subscribers could log in at no additional cost, while unlimited articles required the Basic tier. Details are in CNN’s launch announcement.
The service is available through CNN’s digital platforms and, since June 18, 2026, through Prime Video in the U.S. Amazon described its version as including 24/7 global live news channels, U.S. and international programming, CNN originals, live events, breaking news and on-demand content. Amazon listed a $6.99 monthly option and an introductory $41.99 annual plan in that announcement; these are dated offer details, not a guarantee of today’s checkout price. See Amazon’s announcement for the offer as described then.
Prime Video access is not the same as live CNN TV
The distinction matters if you are subscribing mainly to replace a cable or pay-TV feed. CNN’s support page says All Access purchased through Amazon Prime Video does not provide access to live CNN TV channels. The phrase “24/7 global live news” in Amazon’s description should therefore not be read as a promise of the live CNN TV channel feed. Check the package terms for the route you choose.

How the layoffs and digital strategy fit together
On January 23, 2025, CNN reported that it planned to eliminate approximately 200 jobs, about 6% of its workforce, while Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) was investing a stated $70 million in CNN’s digital plans. CNN also reported that new digital openings were expected to offset some of the cuts by year-end. CEO Mark Thompson described the aim as shifting “towards the platforms and products where the audience themselves are shifting.” The announcement establishes a broader restructuring and digital strategy; it does not establish that All Access itself caused the layoffs or that the cuts financed the service. CNN Business reported the restructuring and investment.

Later company materials show that All Access remained part of that digital strategy: WBD’s 2026 proxy statement described it as successfully launched and distributed through five of the six largest platforms, and WBD’s August 2026 shareholder letter continued to list it among digital initiatives. Those are WBD’s own statements, made before the subsequent ownership change.
What the “low ratings” comparison actually measures
The specific comparison reported by the Associated Press is for presidential inauguration coverage: CNN averaged 1.7 million viewers for Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration, compared with 8 million for Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration. AP cautioned that audiences for such events can vary with the political stance of the incoming president. The figures are a comparison of two particular broadcasts in different years—not a measure of CNN’s current overall ratings, and not evidence of how many people subscribe to All Access. AP’s report gives the event-specific figures and context.

The sources cited here do not establish an All Access subscriber total or a current product-performance figure. Without those numbers, the inauguration comparison cannot answer whether the streamer is gaining subscribers or meeting CNN’s business goals.

On October 6, 2026, AP reported that Skydance-owned Paramount had completed its $81 billion acquisition of WBD. AP said Mark Thompson would remain CNN editor-in-chief, while the longer-term structure of the combined news operations was still unclear at the time of its report. That ownership context is distinct from WBD’s earlier statements about its digital strategy. AP reported the deal’s completion and the unresolved news-operations structure.
