CRN reported that the changes gave Cisco the right to cancel compute orders as late as 45 days before shipment and to adjust prices when specified costs or other external factors changed between order and shipment. Later reporting added quote-protection windows and documented further shifts in partner incentives. These are dated reports, not confirmation of Cisco’s terms today; partners and buyers should verify the terms attached to their specific quote and order.
What Cisco changed in its compute order terms
In 2026, CRN reported that Cisco’s revised terms allowed it to cancel compute orders up to 45 days before shipment. The report also said Cisco reserved the right to adjust compute-order prices for significant increases in component or manufacturing costs, tariffs, exchange-rate fluctuations, or other external factors beyond Cisco’s control that occur between order and shipment. CRN said the revisions took effect immediately. CRN’s initial report summarized the changes; it did not reproduce the complete contract language.
The scope matters: the reported cancellation and repricing rights concern compute orders. The reporting does not establish how the language applies to every Cisco product family, geography, partner tier, or order type. Nor does a news summary determine the legal effect of a particular accepted order. The applicable sales-order acknowledgment and partner documents are the relevant references for an individual transaction.
How quote protection and incentives changed over time
The initial report said Cisco planned to change quote price protection but did not give a duration. In a later 2026 report, CRN said the protection period was seven days for compute hardware and 14 days for non-compute hardware. Those windows are what CRN reported at that later publication date, not independently verified current policy. The follow-up also reported that Cisco reinstated compute deal registration after eliminating it.

A subsequent CRN report described cancellation of compute promotions and deal-registration discounts. That later change is distinct from the reinstatement report; the sequence does not establish a stable incentive policy or the status of every program now. CRN’s later update is dated reporting, so partners should confirm the specific promotion or registration rule in current Cisco materials.
| Development | What was reported | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Initial terms change | Cancellation up to 45 days before shipment; specified repricing rights for changes between order and shipment. CRN said the changes were effective immediately. | Reported in CRN’s initial 2026 coverage; the full contract text and its application to a particular order are not established by the article. |
| Quote protection | Seven days for compute hardware and 14 days for non-compute hardware. | Reported in CRN’s later 2026 follow-up; not confirmation of current quote validity. |
| Partner incentives | Compute deal registration was reported reinstated, followed by reporting of canceled compute promotions and deal-registration discounts. | Separate later developments; verify the current status of the exact program. |
Why Cisco said it revised the terms
Cisco tied the changes to AI-driven demand, constrained memory and storage supply, longer lead times, and rising costs. Tim Coogan, Cisco’s senior vice president of global partner sales, told partners that industry requirements for memory and storage had outpaced production capacity, creating “extended lead times, constrained supply, and rising costs.” He described the situation as affecting the wider server and infrastructure ecosystem.

On Cisco’s Q2 FY2026 earnings call, CEO Chuck Robbins described three responses: announcing price increases and monitoring market conditions; revising contractual terms to address changing component prices; and using Cisco’s scale and supply-chain position to secure supply. His comments, as reproduced by CRN, frame the contract revision as one element of a broader response rather than a stand-alone policy change. CRN quoted Robbins’ remarks; Cisco’s Q2 FY2026 Form 10-Q provides the company’s filing context.
The filing says memory components were constrained during the first six months of fiscal 2026 and that Cisco increased purchase commitments to help secure memory. It also warns that those commitments increase supply-chain exposure if demand weakens or inventory cannot be mitigated. The filing documents constrained supply and the company’s commitments; it does not provide a market-wide percentage increase in memory prices in the cited passages.

What the changes mean for partners and buyers
Resellers quoting customers
A reseller may need to account for both a shorter quote-protection period and the possibility of cost changes before shipment, depending on the applicable quote and contract. In the initial coverage, Alykas president and CEO Faisal Bhutto questioned how long a quote would remain valid: “Is a quote good for 21 days, seven days, three days? I don’t know what that means [and] I wonder how quickly Cisco can tell us.” That was an attributed partner reaction, not a measure of all partners’ views.
Procurement and finance teams
For a customer evaluating a purchase, the practical issue is whether a downstream quote remains usable long enough for internal approvals and whether a supplier can revise price before shipment under the accepted terms. A reported quote window does not, by itself, answer how Cisco will treat an already accepted order, or whether a particular product and geography fall within the reported terms.

Live quotes and accepted orders
For a live transaction, request written confirmation from the Cisco account team or distributor on the applicable cancellation deadline, repricing triggers, quote expiration, and treatment of an already accepted order. Check the exact quote and sales-order acknowledgment rather than relying on a general news summary. Coogan’s partner note invited partners to work with Cisco and distributors, but the available reporting does not supply a universal interpretation of the contract language.

The available reporting does not establish like-for-like contract terms for Cisco and other infrastructure vendors. A meaningful comparison should use current documents for the same product scope and transaction type, and check:

- How close to shipment the supplier may cancel an order.
- Which cost increases or external events permit repricing, and when those changes may apply.
- How long an unsubmitted quote remains valid and what happens after acceptance.
- Whether the quoted delivery timing and supply availability are firm or subject to change.
- Which partner discounts, promotions, or deal-registration rules apply on the quote date.
Without those terms from each supplier, a broad claim that one vendor offers more protection than another would not be supported.
Sources and status limits
The key reports describe changes at different points in 2026, and the later reports should not be collapsed into one unchanged policy. The exact current Cisco contract language, geographic scope, product-family coverage, partner-tier applicability, and treatment of each order type are not established by those articles. Cisco’s current partner materials and the documents attached to a particular quote are needed to determine present terms.
