The 2022 U.S. CIO 100 Awards recognized 100 organizations and their technology teams for innovative information-technology projects that delivered organizational value. It was not a ranked list of the 100 “best CIOs.” CIO also announced a separate 16-member Hall of Fame class. The winners were scheduled to be recognized at the CIO 100 Symposium & Awards at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, from August 15–17, 2022, according to the March 21, 2022 announcement.
The phrase “CIO 100 Award 2022” can also refer to regional programs, including CIO100 ASEAN and Hong Kong. This article covers the U.S. program.

What was the 2022 CIO 100 Award?
The CIO 100 is an annual enterprise-technology recognition program presented by CIO, then part of Foundry. The 2022 U.S. program recognized organizations that used IT innovatively to create business, operational, customer, constituent, or societal value.

CIO’s official roster identified an associated technology leader for each organization, but the award should not be described as a simple individual-CIO leaderboard. The official table was presented in groups of 25, not as a verified best-to-worst ranking from 1 through 100.

What kinds of technology projects were recognized?
CIO’s associated coverage described winning work across several business outcomes:
Rank #3
- Digital transformation: modernization of core systems, operating models, and customer-facing services.
- Automation: faster, more consistent processing in government, healthcare, and other high-volume environments.
- Data, analytics, and AI: improved interoperability, forecasting, and data-driven decisions.
- Manufacturing and IT/OT modernization: projects involving predictive maintenance, supply-chain operations, analytics, and the connection of information technology with operational technology.
- Resilience and public value: better access, health services, public programs, safety, continuity, and constituent experience.
For examples, CIO’s reporting covers government projects and manufacturing projects. A separate Solutions Partners article discusses the products, platforms, and vendors associated with winning projects. That association is historical context, not a current product endorsement.
How were the winners selected?
Available 2022 U.S. materials describe the program as recognizing innovative IT projects that delivered organizational value, and CIO’s coverage says a judging panel selected the winning projects. However, the central 2022 U.S. winners page does not publish a complete numerical scoring rubric.
Rank #4
- Author: Bungay Stanier, Michael.
- Publisher: Page Two
- Pages: 244
- Publication Date: 2016-02-29
- Edition: 1
CIO’s historical explanation identifies innovation and business value as enduring judging themes. That older methodology is useful context, but it should not be presented as the definitive 2022 U.S. scoring formula. Similarly, the separate 2022 ASEAN and Hong Kong program explicitly used Innovation and Leadership pillars with an independent judging panel; those regional criteria should not automatically be transferred to the U.S. awards.
2022 CIO 100 Symposium & Awards
According to the March 21, 2022 announcement, winners were scheduled to convene at the CIO 100 Symposium & Awards at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, from August 15–17, 2022. That announcement was issued before the event, so it verifies the planned dates and venue rather than independently documenting attendance or every event detail.

- Satish Dave — AEG Vision
- Andrew Frey — OneMagnify
- Steve Garske — Pipeline Health System
- Ron Guerrier — HP
- Vipin Gupta — Toyota Financial Services

How the programs differ
| Program | Geography | Recognition |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 U.S. CIO 100 | U.S. program | 100 organizations and associated technology teams or leaders |
| 2022 CIO Hall of Fame | Associated with the U.S. program | 16 individual technology leaders |
| CIO100 ASEAN and Hong Kong | ASEAN and Hong Kong | Regional technology leaders and teams, with separate judging language |
The regional program was separately covered by CIO in its ASEAN and Hong Kong article. It should not be combined with the U.S. roster.
What winning does—and does not—mean
A CIO 100 award indicates that the organization’s submitted technology work was selected for recognition by the program. It can support executive visibility, recruiting, employer branding, peer recognition, and corporate communications.

- the organization was objectively better than every other company in the list;
- the award was an audited certification of financial or technical performance;
- the project remains deployed or successful today;
- the named executive still holds the listed role; or
- the organization’s claims were independently verified by an auditor.
For historical research, preserve the organization names and titles as listed in 2022, and label any later corporate-name or leadership changes as updates rather than silently replacing the original record.
