Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Kismet is a real dog-food and pet-lifestyle brand founded by Chrissy Teigen and John Legend. The couple announced and launched it on May 1, 2024, so the original headline saying they “are launching” the company is now outdated. As of August 10, 2026, Kismet remains available through its own website, Target, and Chewy.
The brand sells two dry-food recipes with freeze-dried inclusions, along with treats, toppers, merchandise, and dog-related content. Kismet says its food meets AAFCO nutritional standards and reports positive results from a 45-day gut-health study. Those claims are worth separating from what has been independently verified before you add the brand to your pet budget.
The quick answer
Kismet is not merely a celebrity endorsement or a short-lived product collaboration. Teigen and Legend describe themselves as the brand’s co-founders and owners, and Kismet is a broader dog-focused business that combines food, treats, accessories, content, and charitable partnerships.
The complete-food range currently consists of:
- Chicken & Barley Recipe with Freeze-Dried Nugs
- Salmon & Brown Rice Recipe with Freeze-Dried Nugs
Both are conventional shelf-stable dry foods enhanced with freeze-dried pieces. They are not entirely freeze-dried, air-dried, raw, or refrigerated fresh foods.

The launch was described as Teigen and Legend’s first joint business venture. The original announcement is available through Kismet’s May 1, 2024 launch release.
Why did Chrissy Teigen and John Legend create a dog-food company?
According to Kismet’s brand story, the couple had owned dogs before having children and felt that many pet brands did not reflect the messy, funny, and emotionally intense experience of living with animals. Their goal was to build a lifestyle brand for both dogs and the people who care for them, rather than sell only a bag of food.
The food is positioned between ordinary dry kibble and refrigerated fresh food: more convenient and shelf-stable than fresh food, but intended to look and feel more ingredient-conscious than conventional kibble. The slogan is essentially “as healthy as fresh, as easy as dry.” That is marketing positioning, not independent proof that Kismet is nutritionally superior to fresh food or competing dry foods.
The founders’ dogs are central to the brand’s story. Kismet identifies Petey, Pearl, Pebbles, and Penny in its materials; its FAQ notes that Penny has died.

Who developed Kismet’s food?
Dr. Kwane Stewart, DVM, is Kismet’s Chief Veterinary Officer. Kismet’s materials identify Stewart as the founder of Project Street Vet and say he was named CNN Hero of the Year in 2023. The company also says that board-certified veterinary nutritionists, expert formulators, regulatory specialists, and manufacturing partners contributed to product development. See the company’s FAQ and About Us page for those descriptions.
That does not mean Teigen or Legend personally formulated the diets. The public materials identify the Chief Veterinary Officer and describe the broader development team, but they do not identify every nutritionist, provide each person’s credentials, or publish a complete formulation-development record.
What Kismet sells now
Complete dry food
Kismet’s current food collection lists the following two recipes:
The website lists 4-pound, 9-pound, and 19-pound bag options, although the displayed price can change depending on the selected size, one-time or subscription purchase, and current promotion.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Treats and freeze-dried additions
The current treat collection includes:
- Slow Cooked Salmon Sticks
- Slow Cooked Salmon Squares
- Slow Cooked Beef Sticks
- Slow Cooked Beef Squares
- Chicken & Sweet Potato Freeze-Dried Nugs
- Beef & Sweet Potato Freeze-Dried Nugs
- Beef & Sweet Potato Nugs Protein Boost 4-Pack
Treats and toppers are additions to a dog’s diet. They should not be treated as substitutes for a complete and balanced main food unless the label specifically says otherwise.
Functional toppers
Kismet also lists these products in its dog-food topper collection:
- Shakers with Multivitamins — freeze-dried chicken recipe
- Shakers for Skin & Coat — freeze-dried beef and beef liver recipe
- Shakers for Hip & Joint Health — freeze-dried chicken recipe
“Functional” marketing does not automatically establish that a topper will treat a medical problem. A dog with skin, joint, digestive, or other symptoms needs an appropriate veterinary evaluation.
Merchandise and content
The original launch included human clothing, dog bandanas, and other dog-themed merchandise. Kismet also maintains a content hub called Tails, with founder notes, nutrition articles, veterinary material, and dog-lifestyle content.

- ATTENTION: Please check the size chart before oder, make sure the stand height will fit your dog well. We suggest to measure dog height from foot to the middle line of the body, and data needs to meet a certain height of the stand approximately, puppy's whole body height under 15inch won't fit after setting the stand up.
- FOR SENIOR DOGS: Effectively protects the spine and neck, avoiding appetite problems caused by prolonged uncomfortable posture. An adjustable dog bowl stand for dogs that tend to vomit when eating, have limited mobility, and suffer from arthritis.
- ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT RAISED DOG BOWLS: Our raised dog bowls for large sized dog can be adjusted to four different heights 3.15'' 9.09'' 10.63'' 12.20'' 13.78'', suit for all breeds and ages. Designed for large dogs, the maximum adjustable height is approximately 1.58 inch higher to fit large dogs needs.
- DUAL STAINLESS STEEL DOG BOWLS: Comes with two dog bowls for water or food, 7.87x 2.56 inch, meet the feeding needs of most dogs for a day. Easy to detach and clean, dish-washable. The oil in dog food can be cleaned more easily to avoid problems such as black chin.
- ANTI-SLIP QUIET DURABLE: The non-slip pads and the silent strip on the elevated dog bowl stand, prevents it from being accidentally knocked over by your dog, but also ensures that the bowl and stand stay stable even during vigorous eating. Avoid daily hassle of cleaning up the floor after your dog's meal!
What is actually in the food?
Ingredient lists are useful for identifying proteins, grains, fats, and potential allergens, but they do not by themselves establish digestibility, nutritional superiority, or clinical effectiveness. Kismet provides product-specific ingredient information on its Science page and individual product pages.
Chicken & Barley
The published list begins:
Chicken, chicken meal, brown rice, pearled barley, brewers rice, turkey meal, chicken fat, natural flavor, dried plain beet pulp, sweet potatoes…
It also includes carrots, kale, apples, cranberries, salmon oil, vitamins and minerals, chicory root, yeast culture, Bacillus coagulans fermentation product, mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. The freeze-dried inclusions are part of the product’s overall presentation and do not turn the entire bag into freeze-dried food.
Salmon & Brown Rice
The published list begins:
Salmon, salmon meal, brown rice, pearled barley, fish meal, brewers rice, canola oil, beef, natural flavor, dried plain beet pulp…

Important allergy and protein caveats
Neither recipe should automatically be described as limited-ingredient or single-protein food.
- The Salmon & Brown Rice recipe includes beef in the freeze-dried inclusion portion. A dog that must avoid beef could therefore be a poor candidate for this recipe.
- The Chicken & Barley recipe contains chicken, chicken meal, turkey meal, chicken fat, and salmon oil.
- Kismet says its treats contain soy.
- Both recipes contain multiple animal-derived ingredients, so they are not obvious choices for a veterinary elimination diet.
Owners managing a suspected or confirmed food allergy should not rely on the recipe name alone. Read the complete label and ask a veterinarian whether the food is appropriate.
Grain status
Kismet’s formulas are not grain-free. The company says they contain brown rice and pearled barley but do not contain corn or wheat. This may matter to owners who are specifically avoiding corn or wheat, but it does not make the food appropriate for every dog with a food sensitivity.
How much does Kismet cost?
Kismet occupies a premium position relative to many mainstream kibble products, although the actual cost depends on the recipe, bag size, retailer, subscription, and promotion. The following figures separate the original launch prices from more recent retail listings.
Original launch prices
At the May 1, 2024 launch, Kismet listed:
| Product | Launch price |
|---|---|
| Chicken & Barley, 9 pounds | $44.99 |
| Chicken & Barley, 19 pounds | $79.99 |
| Salmon & Brown Rice, 9 pounds | $49.99 |
| Salmon & Brown Rice, 19 pounds | $89.99 |
| Slow Cooked Beef or Salmon Sticks/Squares, 14 ounces | $17.99 |
These are historical launch prices, not a promise of what a shopper will pay now. They were reported in the launch announcement.
Current retail listings
Prices checked August 10, 2026. Retail prices and promotions can change, so verify the product page before budgeting for a recurring order.
| Retailer | Observed listing range |
|---|---|
| Target | About $17.99–$19.99 for 4-pound bags; $35.99–$39.99 for 9-pound bags; and $79.99–$89.99 for 19-pound bags, depending on recipe and promotion |
| Chewy | About $35.99–$39.99 for 9-pound bags and $79.99–$89.99 for 19-pound bags, with separate Autoship prices |
| Kismet | Prices vary by selected size, one-time or subscription purchase, and promotion |
The 4-pound option can reduce the upfront cost of trying a recipe, but the cost per pound may differ from a larger bag. Conversely, a larger bag may be less expensive per pound but creates more waste if your dog rejects the food or develops a problem with it. Check the package size and unit price rather than comparing only the headline price.

Subscription, shipping, and return details
Kismet’s published policies state that:
- Standard shipping is free on orders over $50.
- Standard orders typically arrive in two to six business days.
- Expedited one- to two-business-day shipping is available.
- Subscriptions can be skipped, paused, changed, or canceled through the customer account.
- Customers are notified at least one week before a subscription ships.
- Subscription orders are charged two days before shipment.
- Refund requests should be made within 30 days.
There is a discrepancy in the company’s promotional language: the site’s banner and product pages currently advertise a 30% first-order subscription discount, while the FAQ still says “up to 20%.” Treat the discount as a time-sensitive offer, not a permanent price. Confirm the checkout total and renewal price before placing the order. The company’s shipping and returns page contains the applicable policy.
Where can you buy Kismet?
Kismet launched online through its own website, but it is no longer only a direct-to-consumer product. Customers can currently buy it through:
- Kismet’s online store
- Target, including locations identified through Kismet’s store locator
- Chewy’s Kismet brand catalog
Kismet says it ships within the 48 contiguous United States and does not currently offer international shipping. Availability, local inventory, and retailer prices can vary.
Is Kismet nutritionally complete?
Kismet says its dry-food recipes are formulated to meet AAFCO guidelines for all life stages and are appropriate for puppies and dogs of different sizes and breeds. The important phrase for shoppers is the nutritional adequacy statement on the package—not the celebrity founders, an ingredient-list impression, or a “vet-developed” marketing label.
Recommended Free Tools
“Complete and balanced” is a regulatory nutritional-adequacy claim. It generally means the food is intended to meet an applicable AAFCO nutrient profile or has passed an AAFCO feeding protocol for the stated life stage. It does not mean AAFCO has tested, approved, certified, or endorsed the brand.
AAFCO’s label-reading guidance and its FAQ explain that AAFCO establishes model definitions and nutrient standards but does not approve individual pet-food products. The FDA’s explanation of complete and balanced pet food provides additional context.
In practical terms, Kismet’s AAFCO-related claim is a useful starting point for choosing a main diet, but it is not proof that the food is best for every dog. Individual dogs can still need a different diet because of allergies, disease, age, activity level, body condition, or veterinary treatment.
What about “WSAVA-compliant”?
Kismet says it is “WSAVA compliant” or aligned with WSAVA guidelines. That wording should not be confused with approval. The World Small Animal Veterinary Association publishes nutrition guidelines and food-selection tools, but it is not a consumer-certification body that approves individual pet-food brands.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

The more precise description is: Kismet says it follows or aligns with WSAVA guidance. It would be inaccurate to say WSAVA approved Kismet.
Is it natural, human-grade, or organic?
Kismet says its recipes use natural ingredients, but the company also says the food is not classified as USDA human-grade because the facilities produce pet food rather than human food. It is not certified organic. “Natural,” “human-grade,” “fresh,” and “organic” are separate terms and should not be treated as interchangeable quality certifications.
What does Kismet’s gut-health study actually show?
This is where the distinction between a marketing claim and independently assessable evidence matters most.
Kismet’s newer marketing says that:
- 96% of dogs showed improved gut health after switching to Kismet over 45 days.
- 100% of dogs improved in at least one gut-health biomarker.
- Zero dogs got worse.
- The dogs had previously been eating competitor foods.
- The study used either the Chicken & Barley or Salmon & Brown Rice recipe.
- The work was commissioned by Kismet and conducted by a third-party veterinary laboratory or diagnostics team.
- The reported measurements involved gut inflammation, enzyme activity, digestion, and the microbiome.
Those are accurately described as Kismet’s reported results from a company-commissioned third-party study. They should not be presented as independently validated proof that Kismet improves every dog’s digestion or overall health.

- The sample size
- The dogs’ breeds, ages, health status, or geographic distribution
- The name of the laboratory
- The exact biomarkers and assays
- The statistical methods, p-values, confidence intervals, or effect sizes
- Whether there was a randomized control group
- Whether the work was peer-reviewed or published
- Whether every enrolled dog completed the study
- The exact definition of “improved gut health”
- Whether the reported result applied equally to both recipes
- Whether the study evaluated long-term health outcomes
Without those details, readers cannot independently judge the study’s size, design, statistical strength, or relevance to their own dog. A 45-day change in a biomarker is also not the same as proof of longer life, disease prevention, allergy relief, or treatment of gastrointestinal disease.
For that reason, avoid claims such as “Kismet cures digestive problems,” “Kismet prevents allergies,” “Kismet is clinically superior to other dog foods,” or “Kismet has been independently proven to reduce disease.” The FDA explains that disease-treatment and disease-prevention claims can raise separate regulatory issues, and it does not recommend individual pet foods for specific medical conditions.
Who might consider Kismet?
Kismet may be worth considering for owners who want:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- A shelf-stable alternative to refrigerated fresh food
- A dry food with chicken or salmon as prominent named ingredients
- Freeze-dried pieces intended to improve palatability
- A food the company says meets AAFCO requirements for all life stages
- The convenience of buying through Target, Chewy, or a direct subscription
- A brand with a visible charitable mission involving dogs in need
Those are practical advantages, but they do not establish that Kismet will suit a particular dog. The dog’s response, body condition, stool quality, appetite, and veterinary needs matter more than the celebrity association.
Who should be cautious?
Talk with a veterinarian before switching food if your dog has:
- Chronic vomiting or diarrhea
- Kidney, liver, pancreatic, or gastrointestinal disease
- A suspected or confirmed food allergy
- A prescription or therapeutic diet
- Poor growth or specialized puppy requirements
- Pregnancy or nursing
- Unexplained weight loss or weight gain
Kismet may be a particularly poor fit for owners who need a genuinely single-protein diet, are conducting a formal elimination trial, or want air-dried, raw, gently cooked, or fully freeze-dried food. The salmon recipe’s beef inclusion is easy to miss if you read only the recipe name.
A food change should not be used to self-treat a dog with ongoing medical symptoms. Ask a veterinarian for diagnosis and feeding guidance instead.
How to switch a dog to Kismet
Kismet recommends a transition over approximately seven days:
| Days | Kismet | Previous food |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | 25% | 75% |
| 3–4 | 50% | 50% |
| 5–6 | 75% | 25% |
| 7 onward | 100% | 0% |
The company says some dogs may need a slower transition lasting up to two weeks. Feeding should generally be divided into two meals eight to 12 hours apart, using the package’s directions for the dog’s age, weight, and life stage.
Feeding amounts may need adjustment for breed, activity, environment, and body condition. Monitor weight and stool quality rather than treating the package amount as an inflexible prescription. If vomiting, severe diarrhea, refusal to eat, or other concerning symptoms occur, stop experimenting and contact a veterinarian.

The most useful financial comparison is not simply the price of one bag. Consider the total recurring cost:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Calculate the actual monthly food need. Use the package’s calorie information and feeding guide for your dog’s weight and activity. A large bag can last very different lengths of time for a 12-pound dog and a 75-pound dog.
- Compare unit prices. Look at cost per pound and, where available, cost per calorie—not just the price displayed on the bag.
- Include toppers and treats. Freeze-dried Nugs, Shakers, sticks, and squares can turn a food purchase into a larger recurring pet expense.
- Account for subscription renewals. A first-order discount may not reflect the regular renewal price. Check when the next charge occurs and whether the subscription is set to renew automatically.
- Use the shipping threshold carefully. Free shipping over $50 can be helpful, but buying unnecessary treats to reach the threshold is not a saving.
- Start with a smaller bag if your dog is untested. The 4-pound option may reduce the cost of discovering that your dog dislikes the food or cannot tolerate an ingredient.
- Keep a transition reserve. Switching gradually means you may temporarily need both the old food and the new food.
Kismet’s retail availability at Target and Chewy may make price shopping easier than buying only from the brand’s website. Compare the one-time price, Autoship or subscription price, shipping cost, and return policy at checkout.

Manufacturing, packaging, and sourcing claims
Kismet says its products are manufactured in the United States and that most ingredients are sourced in the United States. According to the company, imported ingredients consist primarily of essential vitamins and minerals and represent less than 0.5% of the total formula.
Kismet also says its bags contain 35% recycled content but are not recyclable after use. These are company-provided claims; the public pages reviewed do not identify the manufacturing facilities or ingredient suppliers, and they do not provide independent certification or facility-audit reports.
Kismet’s charitable mission
Kismet says every sale benefits dogs in need through:
- Project Street Vet, which provides veterinary care and support to pets belonging to people experiencing homelessness or housing vulnerability
- Paws for Life K9 Rescue, including prison-based dog training and rehabilitation programs
The company’s charitable mission may be meaningful to buyers, but the public Kismet pages reviewed do not specify a fixed dollar amount, percentage of sales, per-purchase donation, or cumulative contribution total. “Every sale benefits” should therefore not be converted into a specific donation amount unless Kismet discloses one.
Safety and recall check
No Kismet recall was identified in the FDA animal-food advisories and recall materials reviewed for this article. That is not a guarantee that no issue has ever occurred or that a specific bag is safe. If you have a particular product, check its lot code, packaging, expiration information, and the FDA’s current animal-food advisories. Contact Kismet and your veterinarian if your dog becomes ill after eating the food.
Bottom-line assessment
Kismet is a legitimate, active celebrity-founded dog-food brand—not a forthcoming launch. Its strongest verifiable selling points are convenience, availability through major retailers, two clearly identified dry-food recipes, freeze-dried inclusions, and the company’s claim that the recipes meet AAFCO standards for all life stages.
Its main limitations are equally important: the food remains conventional dry kibble with freeze-dried additions; it is not grain-free, single-protein, or appropriate by default for elimination diets; and its gut-health results remain company-reported because the public materials do not provide enough study detail to assess the research independently.
Recommended Free Tools
For a healthy dog that tolerates the listed ingredients, Kismet could be a convenient option worth comparing by cost per pound or calorie. For a dog with allergies, medical symptoms, or a prescription diet, the celebrity founders and health marketing should not replace veterinary advice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Kismet a real dog-food company?
Yes. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend launched Kismet on May 1, 2024, and the brand remains active. It sells dog food, treats, toppers, merchandise, and content through Kismet’s website and retailers including Target and Chewy.
Is Kismet dog food grain-free?
No. Kismet says its recipes contain brown rice and pearled barley, although they do not contain corn or wheat.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Is Kismet appropriate for dogs with food allergies?
Do not assume so. The recipes contain multiple animal-derived ingredients. The Salmon & Brown Rice recipe includes beef in its freeze-dried inclusion, and the Chicken & Barley recipe includes chicken, turkey, and salmon oil. Consult a veterinarian about an elimination diet or confirmed allergy.
Does WSAVA approve Kismet?
No. Kismet says it follows or aligns with WSAVA guidance, but WSAVA is not a consumer-certification body that approves individual pet-food brands.
Does Kismet ship internationally?
Kismet’s FAQ says it ships within the 48 contiguous United States and does not currently offer international shipping.
The Bottom Line
Kismet launched in May 2024 and is still operating—not merely preparing to launch. It offers shelf-stable dry dog food with freeze-dried inclusions, plus treats and toppers, at prices that vary by retailer and subscription. The recipes may be worth considering for healthy dogs that tolerate their ingredients, but Kismet’s gut-health statistics should be treated as company-reported findings rather than independently validated proof. Compare recurring costs carefully, and consult a veterinarian before changing food for a dog with allergies or a medical condition.
