Cherat Cement approved an estimated Rs. 1,850 million (Rs. 1.85 billion) investment in a battery energy storage system and additional solar capacity at its Nowshera factory. The company’s FY2026 annual report later said the work was underway, but the sources available by October 8, 2026, do not confirm that the system has been commissioned.
What Cherat Cement approved
In a notice reported on January 16, 2026, Cherat Cement Company Limited said its board had approved a 25 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) and an additional 5.4 MW solar power plant at its factory in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The company estimated the combined investment at approximately Rs. 1,850 million, or Rs. 1.85 billion. The headline figure of Rs. 1.8 billion is a rounded version of that estimate. Business Recorder’s report of the announcement reproduces the company’s stated reasons: strengthening renewable-energy capacity and reducing rising power costs.
This is an industrial energy project at a cement manufacturing facility, not a consumer battery purchase or a retail investment offer. The annual report describes Cherat’s core business as cement manufacturing, marketing and sales.
What the battery and solar additions are intended to do
A battery energy storage system can store electricity generated earlier and make it available later. Cherat’s FY2026 annual report says the storage is intended to let surplus daytime solar generation be used during night hours. The stated aims also include improving energy reliability and making better use of renewable power. These are the company’s intended benefits; the cited disclosures do not provide measured savings or operating results from the new system.

The company’s annual report identifies 24 MW of installed solar capacity and a further solar project underway. Its figures for that new project differ from the January announcement: 5.4 MW in the notice and 5 MW in the annual report. Neither source explains the difference, so the figures should be understood as source-specific rather than treated as a reconciled capacity number. Cherat Cement’s FY2026 annual report also reports that work on the 25 MW BESS was underway.
Project status and expected timing
The January notice said completion was expected within six months of the project start date, but it did not state when work would start. That estimate therefore does not establish a calendar completion or commissioning date.

The annual report, published September 22, 2026, covers the year ended June 30, 2026. It says the BESS and additional solar work were underway and that management expected completion by the next financial year. The sources reviewed do not confirm commissioning by October 8, 2026, or identify a project supplier.
