The buyer’s total was $87,840 after the auction house’s premium—the figure rounded to $88,000 in headlines. Guinness World Records later recognized the sale in a narrowly defined corn-snack category.
What was the Cheeto shaped like?
The roughly three-inch snack, nicknamed “Cheetozard,” resembled Charizard. Goldin’s auction description, quoted by the Associated Press, called it “a 3-inch long Flamin’ Hot Cheeto in the shape of the Pokémon Charizard, affixed to a customized Pokémon card and encapsulated in a clear card storage box.” It was presented as a preserved collectible, not simply a loose chip.
The auction description said 1st & Goal Collectibles acquired and preserved it sometime between 2018 and 2022. The reporting does not give a more precise discovery date. (Associated Press, March 5, 2025)
How much did the Cheetozard sell for?
| Auction figure | Amount | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Opening bid | $250 | The auction’s reported starting bid. (HotHardware, March 4, 2025) |
| Winning bid | $72,000 | The bid that won the lot, before the buyer’s premium. |
| Buyer’s premium | 22% | The premium reported for this auction; $72,000 plus 22% equals $87,840. |
| Reported buyer’s total | $87,840 | The winning bid plus premium, rounded to $88,000 in headlines. (Associated Press, March 5, 2025; HotHardware, March 4, 2025) |
The Goldin sale closed on March 2, 2025, and drew 60 bids, according to the Associated Press. The $88,000 headline refers to the total including the premium, not the winning bid alone.

What record did the sale set?
In March 2026, Guinness World Records reported the $87,840 sale as the highest price paid for a “videogame likeness corn snack.” That is the specific record category Guinness named; it does not establish that Cheetozard was the most expensive food ever sold. (Guinness World Records, March 13, 2026)
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is known about the buyer and the collectible market?
The Associated Press account does not identify the buyer, and the cited reporting does not establish who owns Cheetozard now. The auction result is also a single unusual sale, not evidence of typical prices for snack-shaped collectibles or Pokémon memorabilia. A regular bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos is not the one-off preserved lot that sold at Goldin.
