No verifiable, current ranking of the Cheers cast by net worth exists in the public record. The figures that circulate online are estimates, and the sources cited here do not document any cast member’s assets, liabilities, or income. What can be verified is the show’s history, its awards record, and parts of each actor’s career. Those facts measure professional prominence, not wealth, and this article explains the difference so you can read any wealth estimate with the right level of trust.

What the record establishes about Cheers

Cheers ran on NBC from 1982 to 1993. A 2022 Smooth Radio retrospective counts 275 episodes across 11 seasons. Those numbers describe the production, not the people who worked on it. Any pay, ownership stake, or residual income that individual cast members earned from the show is not in that retrospective.

The Television Academy’s awards figure is also about the program. Its record shows 117 Emmy nominations for Cheers, a total recorded in 2016. That figure does not say how many of those nominations went to actors, how much anyone was paid, or whether later totals differ. Treat it as a snapshot from a decade ago.

Career prominence is not net worth

Readers often assume that a long-running role, a major award, or a string of later credits translates into a fortune. Those are separate measures, and each one answers a different question.

Measure What it documents What it does not show
Series run: 1982 to 1993, 275 episodes, 11 seasons (Smooth Radio, 2022) How long the show ran and how much material it produced Any cast member’s pay, ownership, or current assets
Program Emmy nominations: 117 (Television Academy, 2016) Industry recognition for the production as a whole Individual earnings, or how nominations were divided among cast
Individual awards record for Ted Danson (Television Academy supplemental record) Nominations across Cheers and later series, with two wins in the listed record Assets, liabilities, or income
Post-Cheers career work (Smooth Radio, 2022) Selected later projects, as recounted in 2022 Current income, net worth, or financial activity after 2022

The two leads with documented roles

Ted Danson as Sam Malone

The Smooth Radio retrospective identifies Ted Danson as Sam Malone, the bar’s central character. The Television Academy’s supplemental record lists his nominations across Cheers and subsequent series and marks two wins in that listed record. Those are professional achievements. They are not a valuation of his finances, and the sources do not indicate what he earned, owns, or owes.

Shelley Long as Diane

The same retrospective identifies Shelley Long as Diane. It also mentions selected post-Cheers career work, but it is dated 2022 and does not describe her present-day finances.

This article does not rank the remaining cast members. The sources cited here do not cover their awards, credits, or financial records in enough detail to support a comparison, and filling those gaps with unsourced figures would make the ranking misleading.

How to judge a net-worth estimate you find online

Most published celebrity net-worth pages do not disclose how they arrived at their numbers. Before you rely on one, check the following:

Rank #3
Cheers: The Complete Series DVD – All 11 Seasons – 270 Episodes – 45-Disc Box Set
  • COMPLETE SERIES: Includes all 11 seasons and all 270 episodes of the beloved classic sitcom Cheers.
  • 45-DISC BOX SET: Every episode is spread across 45 discs, giving you hours of uninterrupted entertainment.
  • STAR-STUDDED CAST: Features Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Kirstie Alley, Kelsey Grammer, and more beloved characters.
  • ICONIC SHOW: Relive every laugh, every romance, and every memorable moment from the entire run of the series.
  • FROM PARAMOUNT: This official box set is released by Paramount, ensuring authentic, high-quality DVD presentation.
  • Named publisher and byline. An anonymous page with no editor or reporting history carries less weight than one that identifies who wrote and checked the figure.
  • A dated estimate. Net worth changes with market values, property sales, and debts. A figure with no “as of” date cannot be compared with anything else.
  • A stated method. Look for whether the estimate relies on salary records, property filings, company ownership, or guesswork. If none is named, treat the number as a guess.
  • Liabilities subtracted. Net worth is assets minus debts. Gross-asset figures overstate wealth.
  • Consistent treatment across the list. A ranking is only meaningful if every person is valued on the same date, with the same method and the same kinds of assets. Lists that mix sources and dates should be discarded as rankings.
  • An explicit estimate label. Reputable treatments say plainly that the figures are estimates and have not been audited or independently verified.

Applying this test to the Cheers cast turns up very little. Most estimates you will find fail at least two of these checks, which is the practical reason this article does not publish a dollar ranking.

If you want to compare careers responsibly, use the measures that do have public records: episode counts, awards listings with their dates, and the credits listed in the sources you can open and check.
