Then verify any apparent win and its claim deadline with Washington’s Lottery: its unclaimed-prizes page warns that a listed prize may already have been claimed but not yet paid.
How to check an old Washington Lottery ticket
Use an official checking route, and keep the ticket until the Lottery confirms the result. Washington’s Lottery offers several options:
- Online: Check the Lottery’s official website and results.
- In person: Use a retailer Check-A-Ticket machine or ask a retailer for assistance.
- By phone: Call the Winning Numbers Hotline at 1-800-545-7510.
- On your phone or by email: Use the official mobile app or sign up for emailed daily winning numbers through My Lottery 360°.
- In print: Consult newspaper results.
For a possible match to a large prize, check the official Unclaimed Top Prizes listing. It gives details such as draw numbers, locations, prize amounts, drawing dates and last claim dates. Treat it as a lead, not proof that a prize remains available: the Lottery says a listed prize may already have been claimed but not yet paid. Confirm the ticket and status with the Lottery before relying on the listing.
Which claim deadline applies?
Washington’s Lottery says draw-game prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing date. Scratch-ticket prizes have a different clock: they must be claimed within 180 days of the game’s official end date. Find that date on the game’s details page or confirm it with customer service.

How to protect and claim a winning ticket
Secure the ticket
Washington’s Lottery advises signing the back of a winning ticket and keeping it in a cool, secure, dry place. Confirm the current claim instructions, forms, office hours and locations on the official claim page before submitting a prize claim.
Choose the claim route by prize amount
- $600 or less: A retailer may redeem the ticket after validation, or you may use the mail option described by the Lottery. A retailer may not have enough cash on hand for every prize.
- $601 or more: Claim through a Lottery office with the ticket and picture identification; tax paperwork and identification requirements apply.
- $100,000: The Lottery requires an in-person claim and advises calling an office ahead.
- Jackpot over $100 million: Claim at Lottery headquarters in Olympia.
For a mailed claim, allow enough time for the ticket to arrive before the deadline. Mailing it on the last day is not enough if it reaches the Lottery late.

Why older headlines do not show what is still unclaimed
Lottery press releases report prizes that were approaching expiration when each release was published; their totals are not a live count of outstanding prizes. For example, Washington’s Lottery reported on June 23, 2026, that 12 prizes of $10,000 or more totaling $8.605 million were set to expire in the coming months. The release highlighted a $100,000 HIT 5 ticket bought in Seattle, a $115,000 HIT 5 ticket bought in Tulalip and an $8.2 million Lotto ticket bought in Bellingham. Their listed deadlines—July 9, July 24 and July 30, 2026—have passed.
In an August 6, 2026 release, the Lottery reported 22 prizes of $10,000 or more totaling $3.995 million that were set to expire in the coming months. The release mentioned a $10,000 Match 4 prize sold in Kenmore with an August 19, 2026 deadline, which has also passed. Those dated reports are useful context, not evidence that any named prize remains claimable today. Check the current listing and verify directly with the Lottery.

Washington’s Lottery says unclaimed prizes go into a reserve account. Each June, the reserve surplus is transferred to the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, which supports education programs. The Lottery reported in August 2026 that it had generated more than $5.7 billion to support state programs since 1982.
