Nadav Zafrir became Check Point Software Technologies’ CEO on December 16, 2024, succeeding founder Gil Shwed, who moved to the role of Executive Chairman. Check Point announced the planned succession on July 24, 2024. CRN described it as the company’s “first-ever CEO transition”; that characterization comes from CRN, rather than Check Point’s own announcements.
When did Nadav Zafrir become Check Point CEO?
The change took effect on December 16, 2024, when Check Point announced Zafrir’s appointment as CEO and Shwed’s move to Executive Chairman. The company’s leadership page lists Zafrir as CEO and a board member, and Shwed as Executive Chairman, as of September 28, 2026.
The succession was first announced on July 24, 2024. At that point, Check Point said Zafrir would take over in December and that his appointment to the board was subject to shareholder approval at the company’s next annual general meeting. The announcement date and effective date are different milestones: the July release named the incoming CEO, while the December release confirmed the transition had taken effect.
Who is Nadav Zafrir?
Before his appointment, Zafrir was a co-founder and managing partner of Team8, according to Check Point. The company also said he established the Israel Defense Forces’ Cyber Command, commanded Unit 8200, and retired from the IDF as a brigadier general. These are biographical details provided by Check Point in its July 24, 2024 announcement.

What changed for Gil Shwed?
Shwed stepped down as CEO and became Executive Chairman. Check Point identifies him as the company’s founder; CRN reported that he had served as CEO since Check Point’s launch in 1993. The title change is established, but the company’s announcements and leadership page do not spell out a detailed division of daily responsibilities between the CEO and Executive Chairman.
Was this Check Point’s first CEO transition?
CRN called the succession Check Point’s “first-ever CEO transition.” The company’s releases confirm that founder Shwed was succeeded by Zafrir, but they do not use the phrase “first-ever.” The description should therefore be attributed to CRN rather than presented as Check Point’s own wording.

Check Point reported $627 million in total revenue, up 7 percent year over year, for the second quarter ended June 30, 2024. The company included that figure in its July 24 announcement of Zafrir’s appointment. It is a snapshot of the company’s reported results at the time, not evidence that revenue caused the leadership change or measured the transition’s effects.
