The headline “Chatr increases plan prices by $2 to $5 per month” refers to reported price increases in July 2025. A separate July 2026 change raised two advertised plans by $1 each while cutting their data allowances by 20GB and 50GB. Those current offers are marked for new activations; available reporting does not establish that all existing customers were automatically moved to new prices or allowances.
What Chatr changed in July 2025
MobileSyrup reported on July 9, 2025, that Chatr increased prices on certain 4G plans by $2 to $5 per month. PriceTimeline also catalogued the change as taking effect in July 2025. The reporting describes a range, not a verified increase for every Chatr plan or subscriber.
The available reports do not establish a complete plan-by-plan old-and-new price list, whether every increase applied to existing customers at renewal, or how legacy plans and promotional credits were treated. They also do not establish whether the quoted amounts included taxes. Check the specific price and terms shown in your account rather than applying the reported range to your own bill.

What changed in July 2026
The later change was smaller in headline price but more significant for data. A July 2026 report said two Chatr prepaid offers increased by $1 per month as their included data fell:

These are the offers described in the July 2026 report, not a claim that every existing customer’s plan changed. The official Chatr page currently displays the $30/15GB and $35/30GB offers. For the $35 offer, it describes 25GB as base data and 5GB as an Auto-pay bonus.

As of August 18, 2026, Chatr’s public page lists these examples. Its displayed monthly prices are labelled for new activations, and plan offers can change.

The annual offers are not direct substitutes for the monthly data plans: compare the included minutes, data, calling and texting with how you actually use your phone. Chatr says unused data does not roll over.

Does a new advertised price affect existing customers?
Not necessarily. Chatr’s page says the displayed monthly prices are for new activations, while the available reports do not prove that all existing customers were automatically transferred to those prices or data allowances. Your outcome depends on your account, plan, renewal terms, any promotion and any notice Chatr sent you.

- If you stay on an unchanged legacy plan, do not assume its price or data matches the public offer.
- If you change plans, the new offer’s price, data and eligibility conditions apply as described when you make the change.
- If a promotional price or bonus is ending, check the notice and account details; the public plan page alone does not show your account’s promotion history.
- Annual-plan customers should check their own renewal terms rather than infer a change from monthly offers.
How to check your own Chatr cost
- Sign in to My Chatr and note the plan name, recurring amount, data allowance and anniversary date.
- Review your latest payment or renewal details, along with any text, email or account notice about a price, allowance or promotion change.
- Check whether Auto-pay is active and whether some of your displayed data is a conditional bonus rather than base data.
- Compare your account’s terms with Chatr’s public plans, remembering that displayed monthly prices are for new activations.
- Before changing plans, confirm the full charge, effective date and impact on your anniversary date or existing bonus.
Auto-pay and plan changes can affect the real value
Chatr’s current $35 offer separates 25GB of base data from a 5GB Auto-pay bonus. The bonus may not be applied if Auto-pay is cancelled or the payment method cannot be charged. Chatr also says eligibility for its dollar bonus is limited, and changing bonus offers may mean the previous eligibility cannot be reinstated. Treat a conditional bonus as different from guaranteed base data when comparing plans.
Chatr’s support information says a plan change requires payment of the full monthly fee for the new plan and can change the anniversary date. Its page says to complete a plan change by the day before the anniversary date; otherwise, the current plan’s full monthly fee may apply in addition to the new plan or feature fee. Check the account-specific amount and timing before proceeding.

How to decide whether to stay or switch
Chatr describes its offers as prepaid, no-commitment plans on the Rogers network, with nationwide calling and 4G data. Whether that is good value depends on more than the monthly price: compare your actual account cost, included data, network technology, coverage where you use your phone, calling and texting destinations, roaming, hotspot terms, speed after included data, Auto-pay conditions and support options. The available information here does not establish current competitor prices, so compare the specific offers available in your province on the day you shop.
Staying may make sense if
- Your usage is light, Canada-wide calling and 4G meet your needs, and the price on your account remains competitive.
- You have a legacy or promotional rate that is better than the public new-activation offers.
- An annual plan’s included services fit your usage and its upfront cost works for your budget.
Compare alternatives if
- You need more data than the current offer provides, especially if you previously relied on 35GB or 80GB.
- You need 5G, U.S. roaming, substantial hotspot use, or features not included in the Chatr plan you are considering.
- You do not want Auto-pay conditions attached to part of an advertised data allowance.
- A comparable prepaid plan from another provider offers better value after accounting for coverage, taxes, eligibility and any promotional period.
Public Mobile, Lucky Mobile, Freedom Mobile, Fido and Koodo are options to compare, but verify each provider’s current price and plan features directly. A lower headline price or larger data figure is not a like-for-like comparison if network access, roaming, hotspot, speed or promotion duration differs.

- Whether the new provider accepts your number and whether it can be ported.
- Whether your phone is unlocked and compatible with the new service.
- Whether switching affects an annual-plan balance, promotional credit or other account-specific benefit.
- That the new plan meets your needs for coverage, data, calls, texts, roaming and hotspot access.
Do not cancel Chatr before the number transfer completes. If you believe Chatr changed your account incorrectly, contact Chatr first and keep screenshots, notices and payment records. Do not assume a refund or restoration of a discontinued legacy plan is guaranteed.
What CRTC protections do—and do not—mean
CRTC Telecom Regulatory Policy 2026-43 says consumer protections that took effect June 12, 2026 include a restriction on changing key contract terms, including the minimum monthly price, during a commitment period. The decision also prohibits certain activation or modification fees. That does not make every recurring price change on a month-to-month prepaid service automatically unlawful, and a higher recurring plan price is not automatically an activation or modification fee.
If you are on a commitment period, check the contract terms and the notice you received. If a dispute with your provider remains unresolved, you can seek help from the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services (CCTS).
