The Chatr offer described as “$149/year for 30GB with unlimited data” was reported at launch in October 2024. It was 30GB for the entire annual term—not 30GB per month—and “unlimited” meant data continued at reduced speeds after the high-speed allowance ran out. Chatr’s official annual-plan page, accessed October 8, 2026, now lists a different offer: $159 for 40GB over 365 days.
What Chatr’s $149 annual plan included
MobileSyrup reported on October 17, 2024 that Chatr had introduced a prepaid plan priced at $149 for a year with 30GB of data. The 30GB was the total allowance for the annual service period, not a monthly amount. Dividing $149 by 12 gives about $12.42 per month as a budgeting comparison, but it does not change the plan’s annual billing or replenish its data each month.
The launch report described unlimited Canada-wide calling and unlimited text, picture, and video messaging to Canadian, US, and international numbers, subject to premium-message exclusions. It also reported voicemail. Once the 30GB high-speed allowance was used, data remained available at reduced speeds until renewal; the plan did not provide unlimited high-speed data. MobileSyrup’s October 17, 2024 launch report documents the offer, while iPhone in Canada’s launch coverage provides additional detail on the annual data bucket and messaging.
What Chatr offers annually now
Chatr’s official annual prepaid plans page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists two plans. The $159 data plan includes 40GB for 365 days, unlimited Canada-wide talk, unlimited texting to Canadian, US, and international numbers, and voicemail. Chatr says data continues at a slower speed after the included allowance is used and that customers may buy a data add-on. The page does not state the reduced speed, so a specific speed cannot be compared here.

How the current monthly offer compares
Chatr’s official prepaid plans page, accessed October 8, 2026, advertises 30GB for $35 per month with unlimited Canada-wide talk. Chatr says those prices apply to new activations. This is a monthly allowance and monthly billing cadence, unlike the annual plan’s fixed allowance over 365 days; the figures should not be compared as if both provide the same amount of data over the same period.
