Is Charlton Athletic for sale?
Yes, according to The Guardian’s 3 August 2026 report: Charlton’s US owners had put the club up for sale and appointed Oakwell Sports Advisory to seek a buyer. The report describes a sale process, not a completed transaction.
The Guardian identified the ownership group as Global Football Partners, five US investors led by Gabriel Brener, operating through UK subsidiary SE7 Partners. It also reported that the group paid around £15m for the club in 2023. That is a past purchase price—not a current asking price, offer or valuation. The article does not confirm the £20m figure circulating in talk about the sale.
What The Valley means for a buyer
Charlton does not own The Valley. The Guardian reported that the stadium belongs to former owner Roland Duchâtelet and has a reported capacity of 27,000; Charlton extended its lease until 2040. A buyer of the club would therefore not automatically acquire the ground.

How to read the £20m talk
Keep the different kinds of figures separate: a reported past purchase price does not establish what owners now want, what a buyer may offer, or what the club is worth. The Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust’s summary of a club meeting says chairman Gavin Carter warned that social-media transfer-fee rumours were often inaccurate. That caution is relevant to unsourced figures, but it does not independently establish a sale price.
What is the James Bree transfer update?
The latest sourced update available here is dated 22 January 2026, so it does not establish Bree’s club or transfer status as of 8 October 2026.

The established record and the prediction are different things. BBC Sport reported on 8 July 2025 that striker Miles Leaburn signed a new three-year deal and had scored 10 goals in Charlton’s promotion-winning campaign. BBC Sport’s contract report.

A July 2026 article by The72 says Leaburn made 20 starts in 38 appearances in his first Championship season and argues that he could become a standout. That is the outlet’s assessment of his potential, not confirmation of future performance. The72’s opinion piece.
