After changing jobs, check the date of joining and date of exit recorded for your previous employment in your EPF account. You can view your passbook through EPFO’s UAN Member Portal; if a date is missing or incorrect, EPFO says members cannot edit it directly and should raise the issue through the applicable EPFO process.
Which two EPF dates should you check?
For the previous employment you want to verify, look for these fields in its account details:
- Date of joining: the joining date recorded for that employment.
- Date of exit: the exit date recorded for that employment.
EPFO’s transfer-claim FAQ identifies both dates in the previous-account details. Compare them with your appointment, resignation, relieving, or other employment records.
How to find the dates in your EPF account
- Go to EPFO’s employee services page and choose the official Member UAN/Online Service or Member Passbook service.
- In the UAN Member Portal, sign in and select Download > Download Passbook, as described in EPFO’s member FAQ.
- Open the account details for the relevant previous employment and check its joining and exit dates.
- Compare the displayed dates with your own employment documents. If something does not match, keep those records available when contacting your employer or EPFO.
EPFO’s passbook service is credential-protected. Use EPFO’s official links rather than a third-party login page.

If you cannot access a passbook
EPFO’s member FAQ notes an exception for employees of an exempted establishment: their passbook may not be available through the UAN portal. In that case, contact the establishment for a PF statement and use it to review the employment details.
If a joining or exit date is wrong or missing
EPFO’s member FAQ says members cannot directly edit their date of joining or date of exit in the database. It advises members who find incorrect previous-employment information while filing an online transfer claim to raise the discrepancy through that process. The appropriate route may depend on the record and case, so check EPFO’s current instructions or contact EPFO rather than assuming a single correction flow applies to every situation.

A missing exit date can also be one reason a member has two UANs, according to EPFO’s UAN/KYC FAQ. That is a possible explanation, not proof that this is the cause of every duplicate-UAN case. If it may apply to you, report the issue to your employer and EPFO, sharing the relevant UAN details only through official channels.

EPFO warns members not to share Aadhaar, PAN, bank details, OTPs, or other personal information with callers, and not to pay money based on such calls. The Member Passbook page states: “EPFO never calls members/pensioners to deposit any amount.” Use official EPFO services and contact channels for account questions.
