Chanel owns 25% of independent Swiss watchmaker MB&F, according to the companies’ August 22, 2024 announcement. It was a minority investment, not a purchase of the whole company: founder Maximilian Büsser retained 60%, and R&D and production lead Serge Kriknoff held 15%.
How much of MB&F does Chanel own?
Chanel took a 25% stake in MB&F in a deal announced on August 22, 2024. MB&F’s announcement said the remaining ownership was held by Büsser, with 60%, and Kriknoff, with 15%. Those three reported stakes add up to 100%.
MB&F’s announcement described the transaction as a way to secure the company’s long-term future while preserving its independent path.
Did Chanel acquire MB&F?
No. The announced 25% stake makes Chanel a minority investor; it does not mean Chanel bought the entire watchmaker. CHANEL later included “a stake in the high-end watch-making brand MB&F” among its investments in its 2024 results.

Who owns the rest of MB&F?
In the August 2024 announcement, Büsser retained a 60% stake and Kriknoff held 15%. MB&F said they would continue to lead the company alongside Charris Yadigaroglou and Thibault Verdonckt. The announcement established continuity in the leadership team; it did not describe a change in day-to-day operations.
Why did Chanel invest?
MB&F said the investment would strengthen its operations and give it access, where needed, to Chanel’s wider ecosystem and specialized supplier network. The company also said it intended to continue on its independent path. That stated intent describes the rationale at the time of the deal, not a guarantee about future financial performance or operating arrangements.

Founder Maximilian Büsser told Forbes that it was the company’s responsibility, “in today’s very favourable context and with our management team in its prime,” to take a step to ensure its long-term future as it approached its 20th anniversary. Forbes’ 2024 deal coverage also reported MB&F revenue of CHF 45.4 million for 2023. That figure is the company’s revenue, not the transaction’s value.
