The £11 million wage figure attached to Cenk Tosun is not independently verified by the available records. Football FanCast used it in an April 20, 2024 headline, but the excerpt does not show how it was calculated. Everton’s January 2018 announcement did not disclose Tosun’s wages, and the transfer fee reported elsewhere is not a wage figure.
Who was the Everton signing behind the headline?
Everton completed Tosun’s signing from Beşiktaş on January 5, 2018. The Premier League’s announcement described him as Sam Allardyce’s first signing as Everton manager and said he had agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract. Tosun said at the time: “I’m really excited to play for Everton as soon as possible.” Premier League, January 5, 2018.
Sky Sports and BBC Sport reported the transfer fee as £27 million. That should be described as a reported fee: the Premier League’s account of Everton’s announcement said the fee was undisclosed. Beşiktaş separately disclosed a €22 million net transfer termination fee, a solidarity contribution and conditional payments. That club-side disclosure does not establish what Everton paid in wages. Sky Sports; BBC Sport; Türkiye Public Disclosure Platform.
Is the £11m wage claim established?
No. The claim appears in Football FanCast’s headline dated April 20, 2024, but the accessible excerpt does not provide a wage rate, the period counted or a calculation. The Premier League transfer announcement and the Beşiktaş disclosure do not state Tosun’s Everton wages. Without a source that supplies those inputs, £11 million cannot be presented as an official or audited total. Football FanCast.

That record provides a factual basis for assessing his league contribution, but it does not by itself prove that the signing was a “flop.” The label depends on the standard being applied—such as output, availability, expectations or cost—and the available evidence does not provide a complete comparison across those measures.

A Premier League analysis published in 2018 noted that Tosun’s improved form coincided with Allardyce using the full width of the pitch. In the short comparison window discussed, Tosun scored four goals in his last three appearances. That stretch is relevant context, not a verdict on his entire Everton spell. Allardyce’s contemporary comments explain what Everton valued when they signed him. Sky Sports quoted the manager saying Tosun had “good movement” and was “very efficient in the air and in the box.” Those remarks describe Allardyce’s view at the time; they do not verify later performance or the wage claim.
