Here are five important facts for employees, job seekers, customers and investors, based on public reporting and CDW disclosures available through August 18, 2026.
1. CDW confirmed layoffs—but not how many people were affected
CRN reported that a CDW spokesperson confirmed layoffs had occurred. The company declined to provide the number of affected employees, the departments or locations involved, or other details.
That confirmation is significant because it establishes that the layoffs are more than an unverified social-media rumor. It does not establish that the cuts were company-wide, that they happened in a single round, or that every CDW business line or country was affected.

The most widely circulated figure is approximately 750 workers, from an employee-generated Reddit post dated July 7, 2026. Neither CDW nor a regulatory filing has confirmed that number. It should be described as an employee-reported claim—not as the official CDW layoff count.
2. Public reporting points to multiple rounds, but there is no verified cumulative total
CRN also reported that CDW had laid off several employees in July 2025, citing reports that included employee discussions. A separate 2024 Reddit discussion referred to a large layoff, but it is anecdotal and does not establish the size or relationship of later reductions.

These reports should not be added together. They may describe different events, and the public record does not establish whether the 2026 cuts were one reduction, several rounds, or part of a broader restructuring.
3. Cost alignment and changing technology demand provide context—but AI has not been proven to be the direct cause
CRN framed the layoffs in the context of an AI-related cost-cutting trend. That does not prove that AI directly replaced a particular number of CDW employees or that the cuts were limited to technology roles.

- Net sales rose 9.2% year over year to $5.6798 billion.
- Gross-profit margin declined from 21.6% to 21.0%.
- Operating income increased 4.0%, but operating margin fell from 7.0% to 6.6%.
- Selling and administrative expenses rose 7.0%, including higher compensation, coworker-related costs and investments supporting AI initiatives.
- Net income increased 4.7% to $235.4 million.
This is a picture of revenue growth alongside margin and expense pressure—not clear evidence of financial distress. A company can eliminate roles while sales and earnings are growing if it is consolidating functions, automating work, shifting resources, changing its sales mix or investing in faster-growing areas such as AI, security, cloud and services.
CDW’s 2025 Form 10-K also discusses the importance of retaining sales, services, specialist, engineering and management personnel, as well as its use of offshore operations for certain functions. Those disclosures describe workforce risks; they do not identify a specific layoff plan.

4. The affected teams, locations and severance terms remain unknown
Available public information does not establish whether the cuts primarily affected commercial, government, education, services, security, corporate or international teams. CRN reported that a former CDW security employee confirmed layoffs, but that does not show how many security workers were affected or whether security was the main target.

CDW operates in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Its company overview lists approximately 14,800 coworkers, about 250,000 customers and $22.4 billion in 2025 annual net sales. That figure provides scale, but it cannot be used to calculate the percentage affected because the reported 750-person estimate is unverified.
What is confirmed, reported and unknown?

If you work at CDW and received notice
- Save the written termination or reduction-in-force notice and confirm the effective date.
- Request written details about severance, benefits, unused paid time off, commissions, bonuses, equity and retirement-plan treatment.
- Ask whether an internal transfer, redeployment or outplacement process is available.
- Review any separation agreement carefully before signing, including confidentiality, nonsolicitation, noncompete and intellectual-property provisions.
- Apply promptly for unemployment benefits in the relevant state or country and arrange replacement health coverage before employer coverage ends.
- Preserve performance reviews, employment records and contact information for references.
Employment rules differ by jurisdiction. The absence of a public WARN notice would not, by itself, prove that no layoffs occurred. WARN obligations can depend on the number of affected workers, location, timing, transfers, statutory exceptions and state-specific rules.

If you are applying to CDW
Do not assume that layoffs mean every CDW team is frozen or that every open position is secure. Ask the recruiter which legal entity, business unit and location owns the role; whether the position is newly created or backfilling an eliminated role; and how the company is handling organizational changes. Obtain important terms in writing rather than relying on workplace rumors.
If you are a CDW customer or vendor
There is no public evidence in the available material of service degradation. Customers and partners should nevertheless confirm their account contact, escalation path, implementation owner and support coverage. A change in personnel does not automatically mean a change in service, but written continuity plans can reduce disruption.
If you are tracking the story
The most authoritative future evidence is likely to come from CDW communications, earnings-call commentary, SEC filings, applicable state WARN databases and direct employee notices. CDW’s quarterly-results archive and SEC-filings page are the appropriate places to check for later disclosures.
What the layoffs mean for investors
Investors should separate workforce news from the company’s operating results. CDW’s first-quarter figures showed strong sales growth and higher net income, while margins declined and expenses increased. That combination can be consistent with an effort to improve efficiency or redirect spending, but the available disclosures do not identify a specific savings target, restructuring charge or connection between layoffs and capital allocation.

That authorization should not be presented as proof that layoffs funded buybacks unless management makes that connection.
Bottom line
CDW layoffs are real, but the public record does not support saying that exactly 750 people—or any other specific total—were laid off. The defensible conclusion as of August 18, 2026, is that CDW has confirmed layoffs while withholding the overall count, affected groups, locations and severance details. Employees should rely on their individual written notices, and everyone else should distinguish official disclosures from anonymous reports.
