C&C Alpha Group’s Bhanu Choudhrie on Why Entrepreneurs Need a Strategic Focus

Strategic focus connects a business goal to actions and resources—and helps entrepreneurs decide which tempting opportunities to leave aside.

Entrepreneurs need strategic focus to connect a clear business outcome to the actions and resources most likely to advance it—and to decide what not to pursue. In a 2024 TechTimes article, C&C Alpha Group founder and director Bhanu Choudhrie frames strategy as a disciplined sequence: define the goal, map the work, choose priorities that fit available resources, and keep decisions aligned as distractions arise.

What strategic focus means for an entrepreneur

Strategic focus is more than concentrating on a task or keeping a long to-do list. It means making choices that connect a desired result to the actions and resources required to achieve it. A tactic may be useful in isolation; strategy asks whether it advances the business’s chosen direction.

Choudhrie, as quoted in TechTimes, says that “setting a strategy, rather than deploying a series of tactics, is the biggest challenge for any new business.” The distinction matters when a new opportunity, competitor, or trend tempts a business to redirect time and money without showing how the change serves its goal.

How to build and maintain strategic focus

1. Define the outcome and timeframe

Start with a specific result the business wants and when it wants to reach it. Work backward from that outcome: what would need to be true for the goal to be achieved? Also ask what makes the offer meaningfully different. Choudhrie, as quoted in TechTimes, puts it this way: “unless a company has a clear point of differentiation, it does not have a strategic vision.”

2. Map the actions required

Translate the goal into a coherent roadmap before choosing individual tactics. For a boutique hotel, the TechTimes article illustrates the range of work involved: sourcing and managing a property, establishing consistent branding and guest experience, marketing, handling bookings, and meeting hospitality standards. The example is illustrative rather than a tested checklist; the relevant steps will depend on the business and its objective.

3. Choose priorities that fit the goal and resources

Strategy requires selecting actions that support the outcome and are realistic given the business’s available time, money, and capacity. The article contrasts a productivity-app company refining its core features with spending on an expensive advertising campaign. Neither action is automatically right or wrong: the strategic question is which choice is more likely to move the company toward its defined goal at that stage.

Asmodee Star Wars: Outer Rim - Unfinished Business Expansion - Strategy Game, Adventure Game for Kids & Adults, Ages 14+, 1-4 Players, 3-4 Hour Playtime
  • THIS IS AN EXPANSION TO STAR WARS OUTER RIM: This is not a standalone experience. You will need a copy of the Star Wars Outer Rim base game in order to play with this expansion.
  • TAKE TO THE STARS AND BECOME A LIVING LEGEND: You’ve made a name for yourself in the Outer Rim, but there is still Unfinished Business. Hyperlanes through the Core Worlds hold the promise of untapped opportunities. The market is flush with new merchandise, from valuable cargo to tools of the trade. Just watch your step; the latest crop of bounties is even deadlier, and your rivals are looking to take you down!
  • STRATEGY GAME: The goal of Outer Rim is to be the first player to reach ten fame, but the path to notoriety can be different for every scoundrel. Cross paths with the various factions patrolling the Outer Rim, bring in iconic Star Wars characters dead or alive for bounties, or make a fortune delivering illegal cargo, dodging patrols and encounters across the galaxy.
  • UNFINISHED BUSINESS: This long-awaited expansion is packed with more of everything the game has to offer - characters, ships, gear, bounties, jobs, encounters, dice and more! Two new tiles allow players to cross the galaxy by passing through the Core Worlds, and the new “favors” and “ambitions” change up how the game is played. Fire up your engines—it’s time to get down to business.
  • NUMBER OF PLAYERS AND AVERAGE PLAYTIME: Star Wars Outer Rim is a strategy board game for 1 to 4 players and is suitable for ages 14 and older. Average playtime is approximately 3 to 4 hours.

4. Keep focus by choosing what to leave undone

Focus is an ongoing discipline, not a one-time planning exercise. New ideas and competitors can prompt useful reassessment, but they can also pull a business away from its priorities. The TechTimes article describes strategy as “the art of sacrifice”: a business must be willing to decline actions that do not fit its direction, even when they appear attractive on their own.

Why differentiation helps protect focus

A clear point of differentiation gives decisions a practical test: does this product change, marketing effort, or expansion idea strengthen what makes the business distinct, or does it dilute that distinction? The article’s example is a sustainable activewear company that could lose sight of its mission by copying fast-fashion trends. The broader lesson is not that trends should always be ignored, but that adopting one should be an intentional choice connected to the company’s positioning and goals.

What the Alpha Hospitals example does—and does not—show

TechTimes recounts Alpha Hospitals as a business-history illustration of pursuing a healthcare niche and scaling operations. The article reports that C&C Alpha Group was founded in 2002, that Alpha Hospitals spent 13 years scaling and refining its operations, and that it had more than 1,000 staff across three facilities in Sheffield, Bury, and Woking. It also reports a 2015 sale to Cygnet Health Care for £95 million. These are figures reported by TechTimes in 2024, not independently verified here.

The account illustrates the kind of sustained focus the article advocates, but it does not establish that strategic focus alone caused Alpha Hospitals’ growth or sale. Nor does it provide a study or general success rate showing that entrepreneurs who follow this advice are more likely to succeed.

A practical decision check for new opportunities

Before committing resources to a new idea, an entrepreneur can use the article’s sequence as a short decision check:

  • What specific outcome are we pursuing, and by when?
  • How does this opportunity fit the business’s point of differentiation?
  • What steps and resources would it require?
  • Which current priority would have to lose time, money, or attention?
  • Is this a strategic choice connected to the goal, or a tactic being considered on its own?

Choudhrie, as quoted in TechTimes, says entrepreneurs need knowledge across many markets and sectors, because decisions may span very different areas of business. That breadth makes a consistent decision framework especially useful: it helps assess new possibilities without treating every possibility as a new direction.
