CashBet’s $1.7M Funding Round: What Its Real-Money Gaming Platform Offered

CashBet’s reported $1.7 million 2014 round funded a platform for real-money gaming in social and mobile games. Its Gamzio contract shows the services and obligations involved.

CashBet raised a reported $1.7 million in 2014 to develop a platform that let social and mobile game developers add real-money gambling. The idea was to supply more than game software: a 2014 agreement with Gamzio describes licensing and compliance services, player support, hosting, banking and e-commerce. Those historical documents explain the business model, but do not establish that CashBet operates or holds active licenses today.

What CashBet raised and what the funding was for

GamesBeat reported in 2014 that CashBet raised $1.7 million in angel funding to support a platform for adding real-money gambling to social and mobile games. GamesBeat’s report is the source for that headline figure and characterization.

A 2016 IBIS Capital investment review described the 2014 financing as $1.7 million of convertible preferred funding led by Fred Hsu and a group of angel investors. It said the proceeds would develop CashBet’s real-money eGambling business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), identifying the UK as an important legal online gaming market. That is a later secondary account, not a financing filing.

The available accounts establish a reported amount and broad purpose, but do not independently verify the round’s legal documents, valuation, full investor list or exact closing date.

What CashBet’s platform was designed to do

A CashBet–Gamzio services agreement effective April 15, 2014, filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, describes the platform as a bundle of software and operational services for real-money games in regulated markets. The named services included:

  • Regulatory licensing and compliance support
  • Customer service
  • Hosting
  • Banking and e-commerce services

A related SEC-filed Gamzio release dated April 22, 2014, said Gamzio planned a real-money casino game for the UK Apple App Store. It said the CashBet integration handled licensing, compliance, player verification and secure banking. The release also reported that the Alderney Gambling Control Commission had awarded CashBet Alderney Category 1 and Category 2 eGambling licenses in 2013. These are statements in a historical company release, not confirmation of present licensing or availability.

  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz (16GB*2) SSD: 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe
  • Power supply: 650W (80plus bronze) certified for energy efficiency and stable performance

The arrangement illustrates why such a product was not simply an SDK that adds betting features to a game. The agreement required games to comply with applicable laws and undergo compliance testing before launch. It also assigned obligations to both parties. A platform provider could supply important infrastructure, but the contract does not support a general claim that a developer would have no licensing or compliance responsibilities of its own.

What integrating with a platform could mean for a game studio

For a studio considering real-money gaming, the historical CashBet–Gamzio arrangement shows two broad approaches. A studio could build and coordinate the regulated operating layers itself, or integrate with a specialist provider for some of those functions. The contract offers an example of the latter, not a market-wide comparison or proof that outsourcing eliminates a studio’s obligations.

Consideration Building or coordinating operations directly Historical CashBet–Gamzio integration
Licensing and compliance The studio would need to address applicable requirements for its product and target jurisdiction; the available sources do not specify a universal self-build process. CashBet’s described services included licensing and compliance, while the agreement also imposed obligations on Gamzio and required legal compliance and pre-launch testing.
Player verification Responsibility and implementation are not specified by the available sources. The 2014 Gamzio release said CashBet integration handled player verification.
Payments and banking Responsibility and provider arrangements are not specified by the available sources. The agreement listed banking and e-commerce services; the Gamzio release described secure banking.
Hosting and customer support Responsibility and operating model are not specified by the available sources. The agreement listed hosting and customer service.
Integration and testing The available sources do not state a standard process or timetable. The agreement required compliance testing before a game went live.
Revenue share and integration fee Not stated. The specific 2014 Gamzio contract listed a $10,000 standard integration fee, a 60% first-year revenue share and a 50% floor after the first year. These were terms for that contract, not general CashBet pricing.
Entering a jurisdiction Requirements depend on the jurisdiction; the available sources do not establish a general path. The Gamzio release described a planned UK launch and reported historical Alderney licenses for CashBet. It does not establish current permission to operate.

The figures in the final row should not be treated as an estimate of what another studio would pay or share. They are contract-specific terms from one historical relationship.

How CashBet’s stated focus changed by 2018

CashBet later presented itself in connection with crypto-enabled iGaming. In a January 23, 2018 company announcement, it said it intended to seek $40 million through an initial coin offering (ICO). That was a fundraising goal, not a reported amount raised. In a June 19, 2018 company announcement, it said its token sale had raised $38 million.

In the January announcement, CEO and co-founder Mike Reaves said, “The iGaming marketplace demands more transparency and flexibility, and we’re confident that our crypto solution will deliver a superior player experience.” That was a company-side claim about its proposed solution, not an independent assessment of its performance. The 2018 announcements document what CashBet said at the time; they do not establish a current product, token status or operating business.

What the historical record does not establish today

The 2014 reporting, SEC-filed materials and 2018 company announcements are historical evidence. They do not establish CashBet’s 2026 operating status, ownership, active licenses, current geographic reach, products or partner relationships. Anyone assessing a present-day opportunity would need current, authoritative confirmation of those facts rather than relying on old agreements or announcements.
