Cartier was named as an intended tenant at 307–313 Murray Street in Perth CBD in a 2023 redevelopment announcement, and the City of Perth later recorded a Cartier fitout application for the address. A December 2025 approval names Watches of Switzerland for works at the same property, but the available records do not establish who occupies it now.
What was announced for 307–313 Murray Street?
On 11 March 2023, PerthNow reported that property owner Centuria had confirmed Cartier as one of the intended tenants for the Murray Street site. The report said the building’s makeover was planned to cost $5 million; that is a reported budget, not a verified final expenditure. PerthNow also said it understood Fendi would be the second tenant, a claim attributed to the report rather than an official confirmation. PerthNow’s announcement described the Fauldings Building as having been built between 1908 and 1912.
Then-Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas characterized the planning decision as enabling “the opening of a global luxury brand retail outlet not currently here in Perth” and said it would have “likely associated economic benefit and momentum.” Those were anticipated benefits, not a measured economic result.
What do the City of Perth records establish?
A City of Perth applications-lodged report lists “Internal fitout (Cartier)” at 307–313 Murray Street. The application, BPC-2024/139, was received on 1 March 2024. This confirms a formal fitout application was lodged; an application by itself does not prove that the work was completed, that Cartier opened, or that it occupied the premises. What is known about the address now?
A City of Perth approval report for 10–16 December 2025 names Watches of Switzerland in connection with internal and external works, including signage, at the same address. Application DA-2025/5297 was approved on 15 December 2025. This is a later, material development, but an approval for works does not by itself confirm that the retailer opened or currently occupies the site. Nor does it establish when Cartier may have departed, or whether Cartier ever opened there. The City record supports saying that Watches of Switzerland received approval for works at the address—not naming the present tenant. City of Perth applications approved, 10–16 December 2025.
