A later report dates the end of the year-round Union Pier arrangement to January 2025. The available accounts do not explain the difference between those dates or give the contract’s terms. “Partnership” can overstate what ended if it suggests Charleston immediately stopped receiving cruise ships. The city profile anticipated short-term port-of-call visits beginning in 2025, and cruise calls at Union Pier continued after Carnival’s homeport operation concluded.

Did cruise ships stop visiting Charleston when Carnival left?
No. Carnival’s departure ended its year-round homeport arrangement, but it did not immediately end passenger cruise calls at Union Pier. The city’s 2024 profile said Charleston planned to continue supporting short-term port-of-call visits beginning in 2025. A port-of-call visit is distinct from a homeport operation: ships can call at a terminal during an itinerary without basing a regular embarkation service there.
According to the July 2026 report, Norwegian Jewel’s June 30, 2026 visit was Union Pier’s final passenger cruise ship call. That later terminal milestone should not be folded into the earlier Carnival timeline.
