The two figures should not be treated as equally established. Alvarez’s estimate was linked to a reported multi-fight agreement, while Scull’s figure was an attributed estimate and his actual compensation was not publicly confirmed.
Why the reported $400 million agreement does not confirm Alvarez’s purse
El Financiero reported on May 4, 2025, that Alvarez had a reported five-fight agreement worth $400 million. Dividing that total by five produces an $80 million average per fight, but that is arithmetic based on the reported deal—not independent confirmation that Alvarez received exactly $80 million for the Scull bout. El Financiero also said its calculation excluded sponsorship, advertising, pay-per-view and other income outside the agreement.
A contract’s reported total, a specific fight’s guaranteed purse and other earnings are different measures. Without a public bout-specific disclosure, the $80 million figure remains an estimate rather than a verified payment.

What Scull has said about his compensation
Scull said he was not allowed to mention any sums. In comments quoted by Sports Illustrated from talkSPORT, he described the purse as the biggest he would ever receive and said it gave his family security for the future. His remarks confirm neither the reported “up to $3 million” estimate nor any exact amount.
MARCA USA also reported, citing SportySalaries and TSM Sportz, that Scull’s previous career-best payday was $300,000 after his win over Vladimir Shishkin. That is attributed background, not evidence of what he earned against Alvarez.

The fight has already taken place
Alvarez fought Scull in Riyadh on May 3, 2025, and defeated him to become undisputed super middleweight champion, according to the Saudi Press Agency. The result and event date do not establish either fighter’s compensation.
