The company later said the potentially affected group was online shoppers who checked out as guests, entered personal information, and completed transactions between December 29, 2025, and January 22, 2026.
Canada Computers said logged-in member-account checkouts and in-store purchases were not affected. Names and email addresses may have been exposed, and credit-card information may also have been involved in some online transactions. That does not establish that every affected purchase exposed complete card details or that the information was used fraudulently.

What happened
Canada Computers said it discovered unauthorized access to a system supporting its retail website and launched an investigation. The company said it notified law enforcement and regulatory authorities and took steps to contain and secure the affected systems.

The company’s later account placed its discovery date on January 22, 2026. An earlier customer notice reportedly referred to January 23, so the publicly reported communications contain a one-day discrepancy. The affected transaction window is not necessarily the full duration of the unauthorized access.

The strongest available reporting does not establish whether the incident involved a malicious script, stolen credentials, a server compromise, a vulnerability, or another technical method. It should not be described as a confirmed card skimmer or malware attack.
The Canadian Press, via CityNews, reported on February 2 that Canada Computers would offer affected customers two years of complimentary credit monitoring and identity-protection services.
Who may be affected?
Use this checklist:
- You made an online purchase from Canada Computers.
- You checked out as a guest, rather than while logged in to a member account.
- You entered personal information during checkout.
- The transaction occurred between December 29, 2025, and January 22, 2026.
Canada Computers said logged-in member-account checkouts and in-store purchases were not affected. Those are the company’s reported criteria and exclusions; they are not an independently verified forensic finding.

If your purchase fits the criteria but you did not receive an email, do not treat that as proof that you are safe. The available reporting does not establish whether every affected customer was successfully contacted, whether messages bounced, or exactly how the notification list was created.
What information may have been exposed?
Canada Computers’ reported notices identified names and email addresses as potentially exposed and said credit-card information may also have been involved for some online transactions.
Customer reports and secondary coverage have discussed additional fields such as billing addresses, phone numbers, expiry dates, and CVVs. Those details should not be treated as confirmed for every customer or every transaction. Public reporting also does not establish that complete card numbers were accessible in all cases, that data was exfiltrated, or that exposed information was used.

The company reportedly said it had no evidence of fraudulent use at the time of its notice. That is a time-bound status statement—not proof that no fraud occurred. Customer reports of suspicious transactions may be relevant to individual investigations, but they do not independently prove that Canada Computers was the source.

Why did some customers receive a correction email?
Some customers reportedly received an initial breach email on January 25, 2026. A later correction said the earlier message had been sent in error and was intended for a smaller group of directly affected customers.
A correction does not mean the underlying incident did not occur. It reportedly means that some recipients were mistakenly included in the notification distribution. Preserve both messages, and use Canada Computers’ official contact page to verify your status if your transaction fits the affected window.

Do not click links in an unexpected follow-up message or provide card numbers, passwords, government identification, or banking information to an unsolicited caller claiming to help with the breach.
What affected customers should do now
- Contact your card issuer. Use the number on the back of the card or the issuer’s official app. Ask whether the card should be locked, replaced, or placed under enhanced monitoring.
- Review transactions from late December 2025 onward. Check pending transactions and older statements, not just the latest statement.
- Turn on transaction alerts. Enable notifications for credit-card and bank-account activity where available.
- Change reused passwords. If you used a Canada Computers password elsewhere, change those accounts—starting with email, banking, and other financial accounts. Use a unique password for every service.
- Enable multifactor authentication. Prioritize email, banking, shopping, and identity-related accounts.
- Use the company’s complimentary offer if eligible. Canada Computers reportedly offered two years of credit monitoring and identity-protection services to affected customers. The provider, enrollment URL, deadline, and exact eligibility process were not identified in the reviewed reporting, so verify the offer through an official company channel rather than an unverified link.
- Consider a fraud alert or credit-file monitoring. Contact your financial institution or the relevant Canadian credit bureaus through their official websites if you are concerned about identity misuse.
- Report unauthorized transactions immediately. Follow your issuer’s dispute process and keep copies of the breach notice, correction email, transaction records, and case numbers.
Changing a password does not protect an exposed payment card. Password changes address account-takeover risk; the card issuer handles card locks, replacement, and transaction disputes.

How to contact Canada Computers safely

What remains unknown
- The number of affected customers.
- The exact duration of unauthorized access.
- The technical cause and identity of the attacker.
- Whether full card numbers, CVVs, expiry dates, or only partial payment data were accessible.
- Whether information was actually copied or exfiltrated.
- Whether independent forensic specialists were used.
- Whether every affected customer was successfully notified.
- The monitoring provider, enrollment deadline, eligibility test, and any geographic restrictions.
- Whether regulators have opened or completed investigations.
- Whether any confirmed fraud has been tied to this incident.
Until Canada Computers or investigators provide more detail, claims that the entire customer database was stolen, that every purchase was affected, or that a specific skimming technique was used go beyond the available evidence.
