It is a PayPal installment plan, and it will only be available if PayPal appears for your Steam purchase and PayPal offers the plan for that specific transaction and customer. Select PayPal at Steam checkout, continue to PayPal, and check whether Pay in 4 is offered before you agree.
How to check whether Pay in 4 is available
- Check Steam’s checkout options. Confirm that PayPal appears for your account, purchase currency, and country. Steam’s payment methods can vary by region.
- Select PayPal and continue to PayPal checkout. If Pay in 4 is available for your transaction and you are eligible, PayPal should present it there. PayPal says availability depends on the merchant, transaction amount and type, location, and approval.
- Review the offer before accepting. Check the payment schedule and agreement shown in your PayPal application. PayPal describes the standard plan as one payment at purchase followed by three payments every two weeks.
If Pay in 4 is not shown, do not assume it can be enabled separately through Steam. Choose another method Steam offers or consider funding your account with a Steam Wallet code.

Why Pay in 4 might not appear
PayPal may not be available for your Steam currency
Steam Support says PayPal is unavailable for Steam purchases in currencies other than EUR, CAD, GBP, JPY, AUD, and USD. Valve attributes this to PayPal notifying it in early July 2025 that its acquiring bank was ending processing for Steam transactions in certain currencies. Valve has not given a timeline for restoring PayPal in those currencies. PayPal eligibility is specific to the purchase and customer
PayPal says Pay in 4 offers depend on the merchant, transaction amount, and transaction type. Its U.S. guidance says an offer may appear for eligible shopping carts between $10 and $2,000, but that range is not a guarantee for Steam purchases. PayPal’s application guidance says applications are subject to approval, and a prior estimate or preapproval does not guarantee approval for a purchase. Availability also depends on factors including the applicant’s state of residence and PayPal account status. Review the terms shown in your own application. What the payment schedule means
PayPal describes Pay in 4 as four interest-free payments: the first is due when you purchase, followed by three repayments every two weeks. PayPal’s repayment guidance says those later payments are taken automatically. Review the loan agreement and schedule in the application, including what is due and when, before accepting. PayPal also says repayments remain due while it investigates a dispute.

What to use if Pay in 4 is unavailable
- Another Steam checkout method: Steam recommends choosing another method currently offered if PayPal is unavailable. The methods shown can depend on the country and currency.
- Steam Wallet funds: If none of the listed methods works, Steam says you may consider a Steam Wallet code. Wallet funds are prepaid balance for Steam content and services; they are not a bank account, credit, or a way to divide one purchase into four installments. Steam Subscriber Agreement
Do not treat Klarna or another pay-later service as a Steam option unless it is explicitly presented in your own Steam checkout. The available choices shown there are the relevant ones for your purchase.

Steam refund routing depends on the payment method and country. Some payment methods do not support refunds to the original payment method, in which case Steam says refunds can only be issued to the Steam Wallet. Steam and PayPal’s cited guidance does not establish that a Steam refund automatically cancels or reverses every Pay in 4 plan. If you use the plan, consult the terms in your PayPal application and contact the relevant provider about how a refund affects your particular transaction.
