Generally, yes. Redeem the Microsoft gift card to the Microsoft account you plan to use at checkout, then use that account balance for an eligible Minecraft purchase through Microsoft Store. The exact game edition or content must be available in the store for your account and region.
How to use a Microsoft gift card for Minecraft
- Sign in to the Microsoft account you intend to use for the purchase.
- Choose Redeem code and enter or paste the gift-card code. Microsoft says the redeemed amount is added to that account’s balance. See Microsoft’s gift-card redemption instructions.
- Open Microsoft Store online, on Windows, or on Xbox, and find the Minecraft edition or content you want.
- Review the listing and checkout screen to confirm availability and payment options for your account and region. Microsoft says eligible games and downloads can be purchased with account balance, but its general guidance does not guarantee that every Minecraft edition or item supports it. Microsoft explains how to spend account balance.
What if the gift-card balance is less than the price?
Microsoft’s checkout guidance says it applies your account balance first and charges the remaining amount to another payment option, if one is available. Check the checkout screen and make sure you can pay any difference with a supported method.

Check the account and card region
The balance belongs to the Microsoft account where you redeem the code and cannot be transferred to another person or Microsoft account. Microsoft’s terms of sale also limit adding card currency to accounts in jurisdictions that recognize that currency and spending it in the jurisdiction where the account is registered. Check that the card currency and account region are compatible before redeeming.
Microsoft says ordinary, non-promotional account balance does not expire and has no balance-maintenance fee; promotional balance may have separate expiration terms. The specific card and account terms apply.

Minecraft purchases that may be separate
Do not assume that every Minecraft-related charge uses the same purchase flow. Microsoft’s digital-goods rules describe Realms as a separate subscription and state that the game is sold separately. Check the specific listing and checkout before relying on gift-card funds for a subscription, add-on, or purchase outside Microsoft Store.
