Target and Walmart have not announced a broad end to Xbox console sales. Microsoft told Windows Central in October 2025 that both retailers remained committed Xbox partners, and both currently list Xbox consoles online. Those listings do not guarantee that a particular store has a console in stock.
Have Target and Walmart stopped selling Xbox consoles?
No companywide discontinuation has been announced in the available evidence. Microsoft told Windows Central on October 13, 2025 that “Target and Walmart, among other retailers, remain committed partners for Xbox consoles, accessories, and games.” That is Microsoft’s reported position at that date, not a new 2026 announcement.
The retailers’ online category pages also currently show Xbox console listings: Target’s Xbox console category and Walmart’s Xbox console category. Online listings establish that consoles are being offered through those sites; they do not confirm stock at every physical location.
What can you find on each retailer’s site?
| Retailer | Online listings observed | What to verify before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Target | The category page showed an Xbox Series X 1TB SSD, Carbon Black, for $799.99 with an “Add to cart” option when checked. This is an observed listing, not a guaranteed or stable price. | Confirm the current price, delivery or pickup options, and whether your local store has stock. |
| Walmart | The category page showed Xbox Series S 512GB and 1TB variants and Xbox Series X variants, including 1TB models. Prices differed by configuration and offer; no single universal price is established. | Check the seller on the specific offer: the category includes marketplace and resale offers as well as retailer listings. Confirm fulfillment and availability. |
Why might your local store have no Xbox consoles?
A shelf that is empty or an assortment that has changed at one location is not proof that the retailer has stopped selling Xbox consoles nationwide. Windows Central’s October 2025 report described local observations and variation in stock separately from Microsoft’s statement about its retailer partnerships. Store inventory can differ from online availability and from one location to another.

What to check before you pay
- Model and storage: Compare Series S and Series X, and check whether the listing is for a 512GB, 1TB, or other configuration.
- Seller: On Walmart, confirm whether the offer is sold by Walmart or by a marketplace seller; do not assume every result in the category is a direct Walmart offer.
- Price and availability: Product prices, promotions, and inventory can change. Treat the live product page as authoritative for the offer you are considering.
- Fulfillment: Check whether the console is available for delivery, store pickup, or neither at your location.
How Microsoft’s 2026 price update affects shoppers
In an Xbox Wire announcement dated June 25, 2026, Microsoft said price changes effective August 1, 2026 would raise prices by US$100 for 512GB models and US$150 for 1TB models, and that the 2TB model would be sunset. These are Microsoft’s announced changes; check the retailer’s live price and the exact model before buying, especially around the effective date.

Microsoft attributed the change to higher costs, saying console storage and memory prices had increased “more than 2.5x” and that it expected another doubling by fall 2027. That figure and forecast are Microsoft’s explanation, not an independent market estimate. The company also stated that consoles are typically sold for less than their cost to make; this is Microsoft’s position, not an independently verified rule for every console or retailer.
