PayPal’s reviewed U.S. guidance does not clearly confirm or deny whether you can send a payment between two PayPal accounts you own. If you want to move PayPal funds to an account you control, PayPal documents withdrawing them to a linked bank account or eligible debit card. What is available and what it costs can depend on your country and account.
Can you transfer money between two PayPal accounts you own?
PayPal’s U.S. instructions explain how to send money to a recipient using details such as an email address, phone number, username, name, or PayPal.Me link. They do not say whether a payment is permitted when the sender and recipient accounts belong to the same person. The reviewed U.S. User Agreement also does not settle that specific question.
For that reason, do not assume that a self-payment is allowed or prohibited. Check with PayPal or review the options and terms shown in your own account before trying to pay another account you control. PayPal’s U.S. sending instructions and User Agreement are country-specific references; the agreement link uses a UK English locale and should not replace the agreement for your region.
How to move PayPal funds to your own bank or card
PayPal documents withdrawing your balance to a linked bank account or eligible debit card. In the U.S. account flow, open Wallet or your balance, choose Transfer Money, and follow the available transfer options.

- Double check if the URL/website is genuine before entering card details online. Do not provide any gift card details (example: claim code) to someone you do not know or trust. There are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
- If you believe that your Card has been lost or stolen, notify Mastercard immediately by calling 1-833-791-7288. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Mastercard Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Mastercard debit cards are accepted, including online. Your Amazon.com Balance cannot be used to purchase Mastercard gift cards.
- Standard bank transfer: PayPal says this typically takes 1–3 business days. Its U.S. consumer fee schedule lists no fee for a standard withdrawal to an eligible linked bank account when no currency conversion is involved.
- Instant transfer: PayPal says this typically completes within minutes, subject to eligibility, limits, and processing. The U.S. fee schedule lists a 1.75% fee for personal accounts, subject to minimum and maximum amounts.
Timing, eligibility, limits, fees, and currency conversion can affect the result. Check the amount and terms presented in your account before confirming. See PayPal’s U.S. withdrawal instructions and U.S. consumer fee schedule.
Fees and payment types to consider
For domestic U.S. personal payments, PayPal’s fee schedule lists no fee when funded by a PayPal balance or bank account, and a fee of 2.90% plus a fixed fee when funded by card. International personal payments can add a percentage-based fee. These are U.S. schedule figures, not worldwide terms; the fee shown for your transaction may depend on funding source, currency conversion, and other details.

PayPal distinguishes personal payments, labeled “Sending to a friend,” from payments for goods and services. Choose the category that accurately describes the transaction; do not label a payment as a purchase or a personal transfer just to try to make a self-payment work. PayPal’s U.S. help page says personal payments are not covered by Purchase Protection and are currently unavailable to or from India.
