Usually, you cannot use PayPal as a general way to pay for a MoneyGram transfer. MoneyGram’s U.S. guidance lists card payments and, for online transfers, bank-account payments; it does not list PayPal as a standard funding method. The reverse is also not an established general option: MoneyGram’s current guidance does not confirm PayPal as a standard payout destination. PayPal Payouts can let eligible recipients collect certain business payments at participating MoneyGram locations, but that is a separate service and works in the opposite direction.
Can you pay for a MoneyGram transfer with PayPal?
MoneyGram’s general U.S. online guidance names Visa and Mastercard credit or debit cards. Its U.S. payment FAQ also describes paying from a bank account through ACH. PayPal is not listed as a general payment method. MoneyGram notes that other online payment options may be available in some countries, so check the actual options shown for your country, destination, and transfer before relying on a particular method.
For an in-person transfer, most MoneyGram agent locations accept cash only; some accept debit cards. Check with the specific location before going and bring enough to cover both the transfer amount and fees.

Can MoneyGram send money to a PayPal account?
MoneyGram’s current general guidance describes delivery to a bank account or mobile wallet in selected countries, as well as other options such as cash pickup. It does not establish PayPal as a generally available destination. A historical MoneyGram form included a PayPal option, but that older form does not confirm that the route is available now or for your transfer.
Start a transfer or check MoneyGram’s route information to see the destinations actually offered for your sender and recipient countries. If PayPal is not explicitly shown as a destination in the live flow, choose a supported bank account, wallet, or pickup option instead.

How to send money with PayPal instead
PayPal’s ordinary send feature transfers money to a PayPal recipient, not to a MoneyGram transaction. In the U.S. flow, the general steps are:

- Open PayPal and select Send and Request.
- Enter the recipient’s name, PayPal username, email address, or mobile number.
- Enter the amount and currency, then choose the payment type and funding method available for the transaction.
- Review the recipient, amount, fees, and any currency conversion shown before confirming.
PayPal also identifies Xoom as an option for international sending. Xoom is a separate service, not a way to fund a MoneyGram transfer. PayPal fees, delivery methods, and availability depend on the transaction and location. See PayPal’s send-money instructions.
What PayPal Payouts and MoneyGram have to do with each other
Some eligible business payments through PayPal Payouts may be collected by a recipient as cash at a participating MoneyGram location. In that arrangement, a business sends a payout through PayPal and MoneyGram acts as a cash-pickup channel. It is not a consumer using PayPal to pay MoneyGram for a transfer.

PayPal’s terms describe Payouts as a business service for multiple or recurring payments and say it is not intended for sending money to family and friends. Availability and pickup eligibility depend on the payout and recipient. Read PayPal Payouts recipient support and the PayPal Payouts agreement.

- Timing and requirements: Check the estimated delivery, identification requirements, limits, and any additional verification shown.
MoneyGram says fees vary by destination and amount. Its U.S. payment FAQ says standard ACH typically takes three business days to clear, with weekends, holidays, and bank policies potentially affecting timing. A credit-card issuer may also charge a cash-advance fee and interest. PayPal’s international fees and currency conversion charges depend on transaction details.
