Re:

Can You Get Both IHG Credit Cards? How the Welcome Offers Work

Chase’s published terms bar current personal IHG cardholders and recent personal-card bonus recipients from either offer. Compare the Premier and Traveler offers shown in October 2026 and what to check before applying.

No—not for the welcome offers on the two U.S. IHG One Rewards personal cards under Chase’s published terms. If you currently hold any personal IHG One Rewards card, Chase says you are ineligible for either card’s new-cardmember offer. A previous personal IHG cardmember is also ineligible if they received a new-cardmember bonus for any personal IHG card in the past 24 months. That restriction means holding one personal card prevents qualifying for the other card’s offer while you remain a current cardmember.

The public offers displayed on IHG’s U.S. card page on October 9, 2026, were 140,000 points for the IHG One Rewards Premier and 80,000 points for the IHG One Rewards Traveler. Each required a specified amount of purchases in the first three months after account opening. These are time-sensitive offers, not guaranteed future terms, and the rules discussed here apply to the two personal cards—not the IHG business card.

Can you get both IHG personal cards?

For the welcome offers, Chase’s published eligibility language makes the answer no while you hold either personal IHG One Rewards card. The restriction applies across the two personal products: a current cardmember of any personal IHG One Rewards credit card is ineligible for the Premier offer and the Traveler offer. It is not limited to people who already have the specific card they want to apply for.

There is a separate lookback rule for former cardmembers. If you received a new-cardmember bonus for any personal IHG card within the previous 24 months, Chase says you are ineligible for either personal-card offer. Closing an account does not, by itself, erase that bonus history. Someone who closed a card may still be within the stated 24-month period and therefore not eligible for a new offer.

  • RFID Keycards IHG Logo
  • Reusable guest keycards
  • Cards work with dormkaba, saflok, kaba & onity RFID systems
  • Cards " DO NOT WORK WITH" Vingcard,Salto, Acculock or Betech systems

These are welcome-offer eligibility terms, not a promise that an application will be approved or a complete statement of every underwriting rule. The practical point is that opening one personal IHG card leaves you holding a personal IHG card, which makes you ineligible for the other personal card’s offer under the current-holder restriction. Do not assume you can collect both bonuses by applying for the cards close together.

How the rule applies to common situations

  • You currently hold either personal card: Chase’s terms exclude you from the new-cardmember offer for either personal card.
  • You closed a personal IHG card but received its bonus less than 24 months ago: the previous-bonus restriction still applies, even though the account is no longer open.
  • You have never held a personal IHG card: neither of these two restrictions applies on the facts described here, but that does not guarantee approval or offer eligibility under any other terms.
  • You hold or are considering a business card: this article does not extend the personal-card rule to the business product. Check that product’s own application terms rather than assuming it follows the same rule.

Could you get the cards one after the other?

The terms described here do not say that a person can never receive offers on both cards. Rather, the current-card rule and the 24-month bonus lookback are separate hurdles. To be outside these stated restrictions when applying for another personal-card offer, you would need not to hold a personal IHG card and not to have received a new-cardmember bonus for any personal IHG card in the previous 24 months. Meeting those conditions does not guarantee approval or eligibility under any other offer terms.

What were the Premier and Traveler welcome offers?

The figures below are the public offers shown on IHG’s official U.S. card page on October 9, 2026. Chase’s separate offer pages describe the purchase requirement, points-posting window and account condition at fulfillment. Offers can change, and the offer on an application may differ from the public page or from another application channel.

Personal card Public offer shown October 9, 2026 Purchase requirement Annual fee shown
IHG One Rewards Premier 140,000 IHG One Rewards points $3,000 in purchases during the first three months from account opening $99
IHG One Rewards Traveler 80,000 IHG One Rewards points $2,000 in purchases during the first three months from account opening $0

The Premier’s larger point offer comes with a higher purchase threshold and an annual fee; the Traveler’s offer is smaller and its listed annual fee is zero. That is a comparison of the displayed terms, not a conclusion that one card is more valuable for every applicant. The relevant choice depends on eligibility, whether the spending requirement fits your normal budget, and whether the card’s ongoing benefits suit your travel.

The difference in required spending is $1,000, as is the difference in the headline bonus: the Premier requires $3,000, compared with $2,000 for the Traveler, over the same three-month period. As a rough planning aid, that averages to $1,000 per month for the Premier or about $667 per month for the Traveler. Those are simple averages, not issuer deadlines or permission to count transactions that Chase excludes. Purchases must still meet the offer’s terms and fall within the actual spending window.

How the welcome-offer spending requirement works

A welcome offer is conditional: the account must meet the stated purchase threshold within the stated period after it is opened. For the offers shown above, Chase measured the three-month period from account opening. Use the opening date and the deadline provided in the actual account or offer materials; do not treat the end of a calendar month or the application date as a substitute for the issuer’s deadline.

Chase describes qualifying purchases as purchases of products and services. Its offer terms exclude some transaction types, so a transaction that appears on an account statement is not necessarily a qualifying purchase. The pages summarized here do not establish a complete list of excluded transaction types. Review the full terms for the specific offer before counting fees, cash-like transactions or other non-purchase transactions toward the threshold.

A practical way to assess the threshold

  1. Confirm the offer you are applying for. Record the points, minimum purchase amount and spending period on the application page. Those terms may not match a public offer viewed elsewhere.
  2. Check your eligibility before applying. Apply the current-card restriction and the 24-month prior-bonus lookback to your personal IHG card history.
  3. Identify ordinary purchases you already expect to make. Consider only spending you can complete within the issuer’s window without buying things you do not need or carrying debt to chase points.
  4. Keep track of the opening date, deadline and purchases. Allow for the fact that qualifying purchases—not simply transactions you hope will count—must satisfy the offer terms by the deadline.
  5. Check progress and fulfillment conditions with Chase. The issuer’s terms govern whether the requirement was met and when the bonus is credited.

This approach helps avoid treating the bonus as guaranteed value before the conditions have been satisfied. The offer pages do not promise that every type of spending counts, nor do they establish a fixed cash value for the points.

When do the points post?

Chase says to allow six to eight weeks for qualifying bonus points to post after the requirements are met. The account must also be open and not in default when the offer is fulfilled. Meeting the purchase threshold is therefore not the same as seeing points appear immediately; retain your offer details and account records while waiting.

If the points have not posted after the stated window, review the offer terms and your transaction history to confirm that the eligible purchase threshold was met in time. Then contact Chase using the customer-service channel shown on your account or application materials. The public offer summary does not establish a separate dispute procedure or guarantee a particular resolution time.

What do the annual fees and card benefits add?

The offers provide IHG One Rewards points rather than cash. The reviewed IHG and Chase pages do not assign those points one fixed cash value. Their usefulness depends on how you redeem them, as well as the reward-night price and availability at the hotel and dates you want. A headline point total alone cannot tell you how much a particular stay will cost or whether a redemption will be available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Both personal cards include a fourth-night-free benefit when a cardmember redeems points for a qualifying consecutive four-night IHG stay. The Premier page also lists automatic Platinum Elite status and an anniversary free-night benefit with terms and a redemption cap. The Traveler page lists automatic Silver Elite status. Benefit conditions and caps can change, so check the current card terms for the details that apply to your account.

The fee comparison is straightforward on the offers displayed: $99 annually for the Premier and no annual fee for the Traveler. It does not, by itself, establish which card costs less overall for a particular person. The value of a fee-bearing card depends on the benefits its cardmember uses and the current terms governing those benefits. Likewise, the Traveler’s $0 listed annual fee does not make its points offer cash or establish a guaranteed value for the points.

When comparing the annual fee with the benefits, focus on the benefits you expect to use and the conditions attached to them. The displayed fee and benefit list do not establish that every cardholder will receive a particular monetary return, and the points offer itself is not a cash rebate.

What to verify before applying

  • Eligibility: Make sure you do not currently hold a personal IHG One Rewards credit card and check whether you received a bonus for any personal IHG card during the previous 24 months.
  • Exact application offer: Compare the welcome points, spending threshold, time limit, annual fee and complete terms shown on the application you intend to use.
  • Spending feasibility: Decide whether your planned qualifying purchases can meet the threshold within the issuer’s period without changing your budget or taking on interest-bearing debt.
  • Account condition: Understand that Chase requires the account to remain open and not in default at fulfillment.
  • Benefits and redemptions: Read the current rules for the fourth-night-free benefit, elite status and, where applicable, the anniversary free night; check actual reward-night options for travel you might take.

IHG’s U.S. card page and Chase’s Premier and Traveler offer pages are the relevant official places to verify current terms. Because offer amounts, channels, fees and benefits can change, the terms displayed immediately before applying—not an older article or offer snapshot—should guide the decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for both IHG personal cards at the same time and earn both welcome offers?

Chase’s stated terms exclude current holders of any personal IHG One Rewards card from either personal-card welcome offer. Applying close together does not avoid that restriction: after opening one personal card, you are a current cardmember for purposes of the other offer.

If I close my IHG card, can I get another IHG personal-card offer?

Closing the account does not erase a prior bonus. Chase’s terms also exclude someone who received a new-cardmember bonus for any personal IHG card within the previous 24 months. You must also no longer hold a personal IHG card to be outside the current-card restriction; other terms and approval still apply.

How long do I have to meet the spending requirement, and when do points arrive?

The October 9, 2026, public offers required $3,000 in purchases for the Premier or $2,000 for the Traveler during the first three months from account opening. Chase says to allow six to eight weeks for qualifying bonus points to post after the requirements are met. Check the terms for the exact offer you apply for.

Does the restriction described here apply to the IHG business card?

This comparison covers only the U.S. Premier and Traveler personal cards. It does not establish the business card’s eligibility rules, so check that product’s own application terms.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which IHG personal-card offer is better?

The Premier showed a larger offer—140,000 points after $3,000 in purchases—and a $99 annual fee. The Traveler showed 80,000 points after $2,000 in purchases and a $0 annual fee. Which suits you depends on eligibility, spending you can complete with ordinary purchases, and whether you expect to use the card benefits. The points have no single fixed cash value established by those offer pages.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Under Chase’s published terms, you cannot qualify for either IHG personal-card welcome offer while you currently hold any personal IHG One Rewards card, and a bonus received for any personal IHG card in the past 24 months is another bar. The October 9, 2026, public offers were 140,000 points after $3,000 in three months for the $99-fee Premier, and 80,000 points after $2,000 in three months for the $0-fee Traveler. Check the live application terms, eligibility, spending window and benefit conditions before applying.
