In the U.S., PayPal offers financing, but its main consumer loan, Pay Monthly, is for an eligible purchase at checkout—not cash you can borrow and withdraw for any purpose. PayPal also offers a separate credit line for purchases, plus business financing for eligible merchants. Approval, availability, and terms depend on the product and applicant.
PayPal Pay Monthly: a loan for an eligible purchase
Pay Monthly is an interest-bearing installment loan issued by PayPal’s bank partner, WebBank. It may appear as a payment option when you check out online with a participating merchant. You apply for each purchase separately; it is not a general-purpose cash loan. PayPal says qualifying purchases may range from $49 to $10,000, with repayment terms of 3 to 24 months. PayPal lists an APR range of 9.99% to 35.99%, based on creditworthiness. Your actual APR, payment schedule, and other terms are shown in the Truth in Lending disclosure and loan agreement if you are approved. Before accepting, compare the APR, total amount you will repay, monthly payment, and loan term—not just whether the payment fits your budget. The published range does not predict the offer you will receive.
Does applying affect your credit?
PayPal says applying for Pay Monthly does not affect your credit score. That does not mean PayPal does not assess credit: it says its decision may consider the information you provide, your credit score, PayPal transaction history, and how long you have had an account. You must be at least 18 or the age of majority in your state and have a PayPal account in good standing, or open one. PayPal says decisions may arrive within seconds, but approval is not guaranteed. Smart Connect is a separate purchase-credit option
PayPal describes Smart Connect as a personal line of credit for monthly payments on PayPal purchases. The amount you can spend depends on your approved credit limit, and the product is issued by Synchrony Bank. It is not the same as Pay Monthly, and it does not provide unrestricted cash to withdraw. PayPal business financing is different
PayPal lists two business financing products. Their eligibility rules and repayment structures are not consumer-loan terms; the published amounts and thresholds below are PayPal’s U.S. product details checked on October 8, 2026, and all applications are subject to lender approval. These are published product ranges and minimum criteria, not a promise of eligibility, approval, or a particular offer. For Working Capital, compare the fixed fee, the sales percentage, and the 90-day minimum payment requirement. For a Business Loan, consider the fixed weekly withdrawal and the credit checks. PayPal says terms and eligibility can vary; review the current application details in your account.

How to decide which option fits
- You need to pay for a particular purchase: Check whether Pay Monthly appears at checkout and whether the item and merchant qualify. If approved, use the agreement to evaluate the actual cost and schedule.
- You want an ongoing credit line for purchases: Check whether Smart Connect is available to you and review its current credit terms.
- You are borrowing for a business: Compare Working Capital’s sales-linked repayments and minimum payment with the Business Loan’s fixed weekly withdrawals and credit checks. Confirm current eligibility and state availability with PayPal.
