Cadence Design Systems acquired Azuro in July 2011 to strengthen its digital implementation technology for system-on-chip (SoC) designs. The Santa Clara-based electronic design automation company specialized in clock concurrent optimization, a method intended to improve power, performance and area (PPA) outcomes. The deal’s price was not disclosed, and the available reporting does not establish which current Cadence product, if any, carries Azuro’s technology.
What was Azuro?
Azuro was an electronic design automation (EDA) company based in Santa Clara, California. It focused on clock concurrent optimization for SoC design. EDA tools help engineers design and implement chips; Azuro’s specialty addressed how clocking is handled alongside logic optimization during digital implementation.
In its 2024 annual report, Cadence described Azuro as a clock concurrent optimization company and confirmed that it acquired the company in July 2011. Cadence also noted that Paul Cunningham, who later became a Cadence executive, had been Azuro’s co-founder and CEO. Cadence 2024 Annual Report
Why did Cadence acquire Azuro?
Cadence presented the acquisition as a way to reinforce its digital implementation tools for next-generation SoCs. Clock concurrent optimization treats clocking and logic optimization together in the implementation flow, with the aim of improving PPA. EE Times described Azuro’s technology as offering “improved power, performance and area results”; that was a reported capability claim, not a quantified or independently audited outcome. When did the acquisition happen, and what were the terms?
Cadence acquired Azuro in July 2011. EE Times published its acquisition report on July 12 of that year. The report said the financial terms were not disclosed, so no purchase price can be stated from these sources.
EE Times also reported that key Azuro management and technical staff would be retained. Its report described the technology as immediately available to Cadence customers as an upgrade. That is a statement about the offer reported in 2011, not confirmation of present-day licensing or product availability. EE Times, July 12, 2011

What became of Azuro’s technology?
The acquisition placed Azuro’s clock optimization expertise within Cadence, and the 2011 report described an upgrade offer to Cadence customers. Neither that report nor Cadence’s cited 2024 annual report names a current product or feature that contains the technology. The available sources therefore do not establish its current branding, standalone status or availability.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- The desk rolls easily around any room, which makes it work as well in a classroom or breakroom as it does in a collaborative area or a home office where the furniture has to move out of the way at the end of the day. Moving it is simple.
- All four casters lock with the flip of a foot switch, so the desk holds dead still while you type or write and rolls freely the moment you need the room rearranged, without anyone lifting a corner off the floor. No lifting needed.
- A 1-inch thick thermal fused melamine laminate gives the tabletop real weight and rigidity, and the black T edge banding wraps the rim so the edges resist the chips and peeling that ruin cheaper tables within a year.
- Legs are made from durable tubular steel and ride on hard plastic casters, a combination that carries real weight day after day without the frame flexing or the wheels flattening the way soft castors eventually do. Build quality shows.
- Backed by a 10-year limited manufacturer's warranty, this is a desk you buy once for an office or classroom instead of replacing every couple of years, which makes the cost per year of service remarkably low. That is real value.
