Cadence announced on 7 May 2013 that it would acquire Evatronix SA SKA’s semiconductor IP business, then completed the deal on 13 June 2013. The companies did not disclose the purchase price or other financial terms. The acquisition added silicon-proven interface and controller IP, along with an engineering team expected to number about 60 people.
What Cadence acquired—and when
The transaction covered Evatronix’s semiconductor intellectual-property business, not the entire Poland-based company. Cadence’s announcement said about 60 engineers were expected to transfer and projected a second-quarter 2013 close. Cadence later confirmed completion on 13 June 2013; its announcement said the acquired team would report to Martin Lund, then senior vice president of R&D for the SoC Realization Group. EE Times reported the announcement and expected transfer, and Cadence confirmed the closing.
- Announcement: 7 May 2013.
- Completion: 13 June 2013.
- Purchase price and terms: not disclosed.
- Expected team transfer: about 60 engineers, as reported at announcement.
What the IP portfolio added
The acquired silicon-proven portfolio included certified USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, MIPI, display and storage controllers. These interface and controller cores complemented Cadence’s existing products for system-on-chip (SoC) designs. TechDesignForums’ contemporaneous report described the portfolio and Cadence’s strategic rationale.
Cadence said the acquisition would round out its interface and controller offerings for SoC designs and strengthen coverage in mobile, connectivity and cloud markets. In its 2013 annual-report material, Cadence described Evatronix IP, together with products from its acquisition of Cosmic Circuits, as complementing internal development to provide broad solutions for display, storage and communications interfaces. The company’s account is available in its 2013 annual report.

What Evatronix brought beyond the technology
Evatronix had been active in semiconductor IP since 1997. Its company history says it had sold more than 1,000 IP-core licenses worldwide before its IP division was spun off and acquired by Cadence. Evatronix’s company history gives that licensing figure; the year for the figure is not stated on the page.
TechDesignForums reported that Evatronix had about 600 customers and a 60-person team at the time of the transaction. The customer estimate is an industry-report figure, not a number stated in Cadence’s acquisition announcement. The engineering group added capacity alongside the acquired IP assets, while the existing license and customer footprint indicated prior commercial use.

Why the deal mattered to Cadence’s IP business
For Cadence, the acquisition broadened its catalogue of production-proven SoC interface IP and added engineers with experience in those technologies. Martin Lund described the products as a boost to Cadence’s offerings for mobile, connectivity and cloud, emphasizing quality and production readiness. Evatronix co-founder and president Wojciech Sakowski highlighted integration, quality and time-to-market as design aims for the company’s IP cores and services. The strategic fit was therefore practical: give SoC designers more interface and controller options within Cadence’s wider IP portfolio.

The public record establishes the acquired business scope, technology categories, expected team transfer and closing date, but not the financial consideration. Without a disclosed purchase price, it is not possible to quantify the deal’s cost, compare its valuation with other acquisitions, or infer its standalone financial contribution to Cadence. The most supportable measure of its significance is strategic and technical: additional controller IP and engineering capability that complemented Cadence’s internal development and other IP acquisitions.
