When did BYD launch the YANGWANG U9, and what did it cost?
BYD announced the standard YANGWANG U9 on February 25, 2024, describing it as the first pure-electric supercar under its premium YANGWANG brand. The launch announcement listed a price of RMB 1.68 million and said deliveries would begin in summer 2024. Those are historical launch details, not a current price quote or confirmation that the car can be ordered now. What are the standard U9’s stated specifications?
BYD’s launch release gave the standard U9 four independent motors, 1,300 horsepower and maximum torque of 1,680 N·m. The company listed a 0–100 km/h time of 2.36 seconds and a tested top speed of 309.19 km/h. These are manufacturer-published figures; they should not be treated as independently verified test results.
How do the U9 Track Edition and U9 Xtreme differ in the headlines?
The 2025 records refer to distinct performance variants, not a change to the standard U9’s launch specifications. BYD reported separate top-speed runs for the Track Edition and Xtreme, then reported an Xtreme lap at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The Track Edition’s speed claim
BYD Media said the U9 Track Edition reached 472.41 km/h at Papenburg on August 8, 2025. This is a Track Edition result, not the Xtreme’s later top-speed figure. BYD Media’s Track Edition announcement provides the date and context.
The Xtreme’s top-speed claim
BYD reported that the U9 Xtreme reached 496.22 km/h at Papenburg on September 14, 2025, and said it was making no more than 30 units available to customers. The cited announcement does not give an Xtreme price. BYD called it the world’s fastest production car; that characterization and the run are manufacturer claims, and current record standing or independent verification is not established here. BYD’s Xtreme announcement describes the run and limited series.

The Xtreme’s Nürburgring lap
BYD said the U9 Xtreme completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife’s 20.832 km in 6:59.157 on August 22, 2025. The company described it as an Electric Super Sports Cars class record. This is BYD’s reported result; independent verification and the record’s present-day status are not established here. BYD’s Nürburgring announcement gives the lap time and distance.
Does the evidence establish that the U9 rivals Porsche?
Not on the facts available here. BYD’s cited releases present the U9 as a supercar and publish performance claims, but they do not identify a Porsche model as a direct competitor or provide a like-for-like comparison. A meaningful rivalry claim would need a specified Porsche model and comparable measures—such as price, market, power, acceleration, top speed, or track performance—on a consistent basis. Without that, “rivals Porsche” is headline framing rather than a substantiated model-to-model conclusion.

What should a buyer take from the price and availability claims?
The RMB 1.68 million figure belongs to the standard U9’s February 2024 launch announcement. It is not evidence of a current asking price, and it should not be converted into a current local-market cost without current exchange rates, taxes, import costs, and confirmed market availability. BYD later said the standard U9 was on sale in China in its Xtreme description, but that does not establish retail availability elsewhere. The Xtreme’s stated customer availability is limited to a series of no more than 30; the cited announcement gives no price. No current order status for either variant is established by these announcements.
