The Nintendo Switch 2 is no longer a preorder. Nintendo launched it in the United States on June 5, 2025, and Walmart’s listings as of October 8, 2026 show the console and its bundles as current products. The “preorder” labels you may see on Walmart’s Switch 2 pages attach to some games and accessories, not to the console itself. For most buyers, the real decision is which bundle to buy, from which seller, and at what total cost.
What the preorder label actually applies to
Walmart’s Nintendo Switch 2 category page presents the console as a current item, while some separate game and accessory listings are tagged preorder. Those tags describe the individual product, so read the availability line on each page before you assume anything about the console you want.

- The console and its bundles: listed as current products in Walmart’s catalog. Confirm the product title and availability on the page you are buying from.
- Games and accessories: some carry a preorder tag. A preorder means you pay now and the item ships later, so the delivery date matters more than usual.
- Carrying cases and screen protectors: Walmart currently lists at least one Switch 2 accessory as preorder. Buy these only if protection or portability is part of your plan.
Prices, labels, stock, and delivery estimates on retail sites change quickly, so treat every figure in this article as a snapshot from October 8, 2026, and check the live page before you order.
Launch prices to use as a baseline
Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 announcement set the launch pricing. Nintendo’s President Shuntaro Furukawa described the console as “the next step in at-home gaming that can be taken on the go based on eight years of play and discovery that began with Nintendo Switch.” The figures below are the suggested retail prices Nintendo announced for the June 5, 2025 US launch. They are a reference point, not a current Walmart price.

The listing’s savings claim compares the bundle’s price with the value it assigns to those components. Use that number as a starting point, not a conclusion. The useful test is simpler: add up what you would pay for the same console, game, and membership separately, at the same seller, on the same day, and compare that total with the bundle’s checkout price. Remember that the membership is time-limited. Once the three months end, continuing the service costs whatever Nintendo charges at that point, and this article did not establish that rate.
How to compare Walmart with other sellers
Nothing in the available evidence shows that Walmart has an exclusive price, a guaranteed delivery advantage, or any other reason to beat other retailers. A fair comparison therefore has to be done at checkout, each time, for the exact product you want.

- Pick one exact product. Compare the console alone with the console alone, and the same bundle contents with the same bundle contents. A bundle with a game and membership is not comparable to a bare console.
- Record the checkout total. Include tax and any shipping or pickup fees, not just the advertised price.
- Confirm the seller. Check whether Walmart is the seller or whether the listing is fulfilled by a third-party marketplace seller. Seller terms can differ.
- Check stock and delivery or pickup dates. For any item tagged preorder, the date it ships matters as much as the price.
- Read the return terms for that seller. Return windows and conditions are set by the seller and can vary, so check them before paying.
When buying now makes sense and when waiting is a guess
Buy now if one of the current bundles already contains what you would buy anyway, and the checkout total beats your other options after tax and fees. If you only want the console and the bundle’s game or membership does not matter to you, compare the bare console price across sellers rather than paying for components you will not use.
Waiting is harder to justify. The evidence reviewed here does not show a scheduled price cut, a new bundle, or a clearance date for the Switch 2. Waiting for a deal you cannot verify is a guess, and a guess should not drive a purchase decision.
Checklist before you pay
- Confirm the console or bundle is listed as available, not as a preorder.
- Match the exact bundle contents to what you need.
- Compare the full checkout total with the same item at one or two other sellers.
- Note the seller, stock status, delivery or pickup date, and return terms.
- If a game or accessory is tagged preorder, check its shipping date separately from the console.
