Build A Rocket Boy announced a Series D financing of more than $110 million on January 17, 2024. Led by RedBird Capital Partners, the funding was intended to support commercialization of the studio’s announced projects: the EVERYWHERE platform, the game MindsEye and the ARCADIA creation tools. The Edinburgh-headquartered studio was founded by Leslie Benzies, the former Rockstar North president associated with Grand Theft Auto’s development.
Who founded Build A Rocket Boy, and what is its connection to Grand Theft Auto?
Leslie Benzies founded Build A Rocket Boy and leads the Edinburgh-headquartered studio. He previously served as president of Rockstar North and drove development of Grand Theft Auto from the third installment through later titles, according to TechCrunch’s January 2024 report. Build A Rocket Boy is a separate studio; Benzies’ career connection to the series does not make the new studio a Grand Theft Auto developer or publisher.
Who invested in the Series D, and what was the money for?
Build A Rocket Boy and RedBird Capital Partners announced the round on January 17, 2024, describing it as more than $110 million. RedBird led it, with Galaxy Interactive, NetEase Games, Endeavor, Alignment Growth, Woodline Partners, GTAM Partners and other investors participating. The stated purpose was to commercialize EVERYWHERE, MindsEye and ARCADIA, rather than to fund a single game alone. The funding announcement does not itemize the amount allocated to each project.
RedBird’s announcement separately described the investor as managing approximately $10 billion in assets at the time. That figure refers to RedBird’s assets under management, not the size of Build A Rocket Boy’s financing.

How do EVERYWHERE, MindsEye and ARCADIA differ?
| Project | Announced format | Intended player role | Distribution or maturity described |
|---|---|---|---|
| EVERYWHERE | Open-world, multi-world gaming and entertainment platform | Explore experiences and create or share within a platform concept | Commercialization was a stated funding goal; a specific retail launch plan was not stated in the funding announcement. |
| MindsEye | Story-driven AAA game | Play an authored story campaign; the later announcement also described creation features | IO Interactive announced a worldwide publishing and distribution agreement in October 2024 and a June 10, 2025 release plan. |
| ARCADIA | User-generated-content design tools | Design and share content | Commercialization was a stated funding goal; a separate release schedule was not stated in the funding announcement. |
The distinctions matter: EVERYWHERE was presented as a broader platform, MindsEye as a standalone game, and ARCADIA as creation tools. The funding announcement described the ambitions, not completed commercial launches for all three projects. Build A Rocket Boy’s financing release framed them as the products the round would help commercialize.
Who publishes MindsEye, and where was it announced for release?
IO Interactive’s publishing label, IOI Partners, announced a worldwide publishing and distribution agreement for MindsEye on October 16, 2024. The agreement covered marketing, localization, distribution, quality assurance and player support. IOI Partners’ announcement established the publishing route; it did not make IO Interactive the game’s developer.

The Series D linked a substantial financing round to a three-part product strategy: a broad gaming and entertainment platform, a narrative-led game, and tools for player-made content. MindsEye later received a named publishing partner and a specific multi-platform release announcement, while the original funding announcement described EVERYWHERE and ARCADIA as commercialization objectives without providing equivalent launch details. In practical terms, the round was intended to advance a portfolio, not merely bankroll Benzies’ next game.
