It arranges long-distance moves through an available carrier in its network. Its public website does not provide a reliable 2026 price list: the detailed examples shown are from 2015 and 2016, while the current “as low as $1,250” statement is only an advertised starting point. Before paying a deposit, identify the actual carrier, obtain that carrier’s written estimate, and confirm whether the estimate is binding or non-binding.
What Budget Van Lines does
Budget Van Lines describes itself as a household-goods moving broker. It takes information about your move, provides an estimate or connects the request with companies serving your route, and says an available mover performs the transportation. The legal carrier assigned to your shipment therefore matters as much as the broker’s name.

A quote request may be matched with third-party companies as well as an individual Budget quote. Ask for the carrier’s complete legal name and verify that the business is authorized for interstate household-goods moves before signing. Read the carrier’s estimate, bill of lading and other move documents—not only the broker’s sales summary.

There is no defensible single “average” Budget Van Lines price from the public information available. The company says the quote depends on inventory weight or size, origin and destination, distance, move date, route demand and additional services such as packing. An exact price requires an inventory review by a moving specialist.

The company’s pricing page displays these historical examples:

These figures cannot be compared directly with a carrier’s written estimate unless the inventory, dates, services, access conditions and estimate type are equivalent. A headline starting price can omit packing, materials, stairs, long carries, storage, shuttle service or other accessorial charges.

How to get a usable quote
- Build a complete inventory. List furniture, appliances, boxes, outdoor items, fragile or specialty goods and anything you may add. Include stairs, elevators, parking restrictions, long walks from the truck and disassembly or assembly needs.
- Ask who will issue the estimate. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration guidance says a “rate quote” is not an estimate. Confirm the legal entity issuing the written estimate and the carrier that will transport the shipment.
- Request the estimate in writing. It should identify transportation, accessorial and advance charges, the described inventory and requested services.
- Determine whether it is binding. A binding estimate generally caps the amount due at delivery for the quantities and services described, although added items, added services and certain unforeseen circumstances can require a new estimate. A non-binding estimate is not a guaranteed final total; FMCSA says the mover cannot require more than 110% of that estimate at delivery, with the remaining balance handled under the applicable rules.
- Compare like for like. Obtain written estimates from the actual carriers, not just broker headlines. Check pickup and delivery windows, payment due before pickup, cancellation and deposit terms, valuation coverage, packing responsibilities and claims procedures.
What the estimate should spell out
- Inventory and estimated weight or volume, including every room and storage area.
- Pickup and delivery addresses, dates or windows, and any storage period.
- Packing labor, boxes, wrapping, crating, unpacking and disposal services.
- Charges for stairs, elevators, long carries, narrow access, shuttle trucks, assembly and disassembly.
- Fuel, transportation, materials, valuation or insurance-related charges and taxes where applicable.
- Deposit amount, cancellation deadlines, payment methods and the amount due at pickup or delivery.
- The carrier’s legal name, registration information and contact details for claims.
Are Budget Van Lines quotes binding?
Do not assume that a broker’s initial telephone or online figure is binding. The status depends on the written estimate issued for the shipment and on the terms and inventory it describes. A carrier may revise paperwork when you add property or services, and conditions outside the described move can affect the final charge. Have the carrier explain, in writing, what happens if the inventory differs from the survey or if delivery requires extra services.

At access on October 13, 2026, the Better Business Bureau profile showed accreditation and an A+ rating. Its complaint page showed three complaints in the preceding three years, with two closed in the preceding 12 months. BBB cautions that its profiles are not independent verification of third-party information and that complaint counts should be considered in relation to company size and transaction volume.

The BBB consumer-review page displayed an average rating of 1 from 24 reviews at that time. Recent individual reviews included allegations about price increases, delayed delivery, damage and unsolicited calls or messages after quote requests. Those are customer reports, not adjudicated findings; a self-selected review set cannot establish how common any outcome is for all customers.
Use review sites to identify questions for the carrier—especially about estimate changes, delivery delays and claims handling—then check the carrier’s own documents and registration rather than treating a rating as a guarantee.

Broker-specific risks and protections
A broker can help locate capacity on a route, but the handoff creates a documentation risk: the sales estimate may not be the same document the transporting carrier honors. Before booking, save every email, inventory list, estimate and payment receipt. Confirm the assigned carrier before pickup and make sure the bill of lading matches the promised services.

If a dispute arises, start with the carrier’s claims or customer-resolution process and keep photographs, receipts and delivery-condition notes. For eligible interstate moving complaints, FMCSA’s National Consumer Complaint Database is a federal reporting channel. Complaints document reported problems; they do not by themselves prove liability.

Questions to ask before paying a deposit
- Which company—not just which broker—will transport my shipment?
- Who issued this estimate, and is it binding or non-binding?
- What inventory and services are included, and what would trigger a revised estimate?
- What amount is due before pickup, at pickup and at delivery?
- What are the cancellation, refund, delay and storage terms?
- How are damage claims filed, and which company handles them?
- Can I receive the carrier’s complete move documents before signing?
The Bottom Line
Budget Van Lines may be a useful broker contact, but its advertised starting price and old example prices are not a dependable 2026 moving budget. The decision should be based on a dated written estimate from the carrier that will actually move your goods, with the inventory, services, estimate type, payment terms and complaint process clearly documented.
