Neither BT nor TalkTalk is the right choice for every household: the better deal depends on what is available at your address, the speed and minimum guarantee offered there, and the full cost over the contract. On the offers shown on the providers’ websites on 7 October 2026, TalkTalk’s Full Fibre 500 had the lower initial monthly price, while BT’s listed Full Fibre tiers included stated minimum speeds and upload speeds. Those are examples, not a universal postcode-by-postcode price ranking.
There is also a major change in the background: BT Group announced a deal to acquire TalkTalk Group on 5 October 2026. Ofcom says TalkTalk customers remain TalkTalk customers for now, with no immediate change to their price, contract, billing access or service.
BT and TalkTalk broadband offers compared
The table compares the Full Fibre offers displayed by BT and TalkTalk on 7 October 2026. Prices and availability are postcode-dependent and can change. The providers’ pages do not present every detail in the same way, so treat these as examples to check against the offer for your address, not as a complete like-for-like tariff comparison.

Sources: BT’s current broadband deals page and TalkTalk’s Full Fibre page, both accessed 7 October 2026. TalkTalk says its listed plans are subject to location-specific conditions and Direct Debit. The displayed TalkTalk 900 price is “from” £36, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed price for every address.

Which provider is cheaper over the contract?
On the displayed initial prices, TalkTalk Full Fibre 500 costs £3.99 less per month than BT Full Fibre 500, while TalkTalk Full Fibre 900 starts at the same monthly price as BT Full Fibre 900. That does not establish which provider will cost less for a specific home over 24 months: the future price dates differ, TalkTalk’s 900 price is stated as “from”, and the pages do not give a matched total-cost figure for a shared start date.
Before ordering, compare the offer shown after entering the exact address and check the complete scheduled cost for the contract. Include the monthly rises, any setup or engineer charges, optional add-ons and the contract length. Ofcom notes that broadband costs can depend on technology, speed, extras, contract length and installation charges, and recommends accredited comparison services for comparing costs across the whole contract.

What speed will you get at your address?
BT lists Full Fibre packages up to 900 Mbps as well as part-fibre plans; TalkTalk lists Full Fibre 500 and 900 among its packages. These advertised tiers do not show which packages a particular household can order. Enter your address in each provider’s availability checker and compare the estimates and guarantees for the closest suitable tiers.
Keep three speed figures distinct: an advertised package tier, a provider’s estimate for the address, and a guaranteed minimum. For the BT offers in the table, the provider displayed a minimum guarantee and upload speed. The cited TalkTalk offer details did not state comparable figures for those fields, so check the exact terms presented for your address rather than assuming they match BT’s.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Even an address-specific estimate cannot predict every household’s experience. Ofcom says speed can vary with time of day, the number of people and devices using the connection, and whether a device is connected over Wi-Fi or by cable. If the line speed is sound but Wi-Fi is weak in one room, that is an in-home coverage issue; a mesh system may help extend Wi-Fi coverage, but it does not increase the speed delivered by the broadband line.
What Ofcom’s customer-service evidence says
Ofcom’s 2025 customer-service report, based on its 2024 customer trackers, found that 54% of TalkTalk broadband customers were satisfied with complaint handling, compared with a 58% sector average. Forty per cent of TalkTalk broadband complaints were completely resolved at first contact, against a 44% sector average.

The same report found that 75% of TalkTalk broadband customers were satisfied with speed and 77% with reliability; on both measures, TalkTalk customers were less likely than average to report satisfaction. BT customers were more likely than average to recommend their provider to a friend. These are reports of customers’ experiences in 2024, not a forecast of how an individual customer will be treated today.
Separately, Ofcom’s Q1 2026 complaints report identified TalkTalk as the most complained-about fixed-broadband provider that quarter, comparing complaints received per 100,000 customers. In its 2024 customer-tracker evidence, 20% of BT broadband customers said they had a reason to complain, below the 23% sector average. These are different measures and reporting periods; neither alone describes every aspect of service quality.

What the announced BT–TalkTalk deal means for customers
BT Group announced a deal to acquire TalkTalk Group on 5 October 2026. As of Ofcom’s customer advice published that day, the deal had not changed TalkTalk customers’ terms or service. Ofcom says customers remain TalkTalk customers and do not need to do anything differently; they can continue to use landline, broadband and pay TV as normal. BT’s transition information says the companies remain separate and continue to compete while the deal is subject to regulatory review.
BT says TalkTalk’s existing support channels remain in place, so current customers should use the usual TalkTalk channels if they need help. If you are considering leaving either provider, first check your contract status: early termination charges may apply before the minimum term ends.
How to choose between BT and TalkTalk
- Check availability at your exact address. Compare the technology and tiers each provider can actually supply; a package advertised nationally may not be orderable at your postcode.
- Match the speed you need. Compare address-specific estimates, minimum guarantees and upload speeds where they are stated, rather than choosing on the headline download number alone.
- Compare the contract cost. Put scheduled monthly prices, contract length, installation or setup fees and extras side by side for the same start date.
- Use service evidence in context. Ofcom’s figures provide useful signals about reported customer experience, but keep survey results separate from complaints-per-customer data and pay attention to each measure’s reporting period.
- Consider your current contract and support needs. Check for early exit charges before switching, and remember that TalkTalk support remains through its usual channels during the announced transition.
For a customer whose address qualifies for the displayed offers, TalkTalk’s Full Fibre 500 had the lower initial monthly price; BT’s listed offers showed minimum guarantees and upload speeds, which are useful points of comparison. The sensible choice is the address-specific offer whose total scheduled cost, speed terms and contract conditions best fit the household—not a provider-wide winner based on one headline price or one service metric.
