A 2023 report put entrepreneur Bryan Johnson’s personal anti-aging project at roughly $2 million a year. That figure describes an unusually intensive program, not the price of a proven treatment—and the reported changes in selected biological measures do not establish that he reversed aging or extended his life.
What the $2 million figure refers to
Futurism’s Maggie Harrison Dupré reported on Jan. 26, 2023, that Johnson was spending roughly $2 million per year on a project intended to move selected biological measures toward those of an 18-year-old. The figure was attributed to Johnson’s account in Bloomberg coverage summarized by Futurism; it is not a current, independently verified budget or a price for a standard anti-aging service. Johnson, founder of Braintree, described his ambition as “age 18 everywhere.” The reported program involved more than 30 doctors and health professionals, along with a strict diet, exercise, supplements, recurring blood, stool and urine tests, whole-body MRIs and ultrasounds, skincare procedures, and a device to track nighttime erections. These are details reported in 2023, some relayed from Bloomberg—not a current inventory or a reproducible medical protocol.
What the reported results do—and don’t—mean
Johnson and his team reportedly said an epigenetic clock had moved back 5.1 years over seven months. The article also described age estimates for selected organs and quoted internist Jeff Toll, identified as a member of Johnson’s health staff, saying: “All of the markers we are tracking,” have been improving remarkably.

Those statements concern selected measurements and the team’s interpretation of them. A change in a biological marker or an estimate of organ age does not, by itself, show that the whole body has become younger, that the person will live longer, or that a clinically meaningful health outcome has improved. The 2023 account does not establish those outcomes for Johnson’s overall regimen.
Why the project is not a personal-finance blueprint
The reported annual spending is inseparable from intensive professional oversight, testing, imaging, and procedures. It does not tell a reader what a comparable program would cost, whether the same services are available or appropriate elsewhere, or what benefit a person could expect. The account does not provide a standardized protocol that readers could safely reproduce.

For a financial decision, the central distinction is between spending on monitoring or a promising-sounding metric and paying for a treatment shown to improve outcomes that matter to patients. The report supplies no established lifespan effect or success rate for Johnson’s full approach. It therefore cannot support a return-on-investment calculation or justify treating $2 million as the cost of buying back a particular number of years.

The FDA’s Dec. 6, 2024 update says young-donor plasma is not approved for anti-aging uses and that the agency is unaware of evidence demonstrating clinical benefit for preventing aging or memory loss. Plasma transfusions also carry risks, including infectious disease transmission, allergic reactions, and respiratory complications. How to assess a costly longevity offer
- Ask what outcome is promised. A result reported as a biomarker shift is not the same as evidence of fewer illnesses, better function, or longer life.
- Look for evidence on the full intervention. Findings about one test, supplement, or procedure do not establish that a bundled personal regimen works.
- Check risks and oversight. Ask a qualified clinician about the specific intervention, its known risks, and whether it is appropriate for your circumstances.
- Separate recurring costs from one-time spending. A reported annual budget does not reveal the cost of each component, what recurs, or what insurance might cover.
- Be wary of certainty and urgency. Claims that a costly treatment reverses aging or guarantees years of life require strong clinical evidence, not just an impressive measurement or a celebrity’s resources.
