Brooke Shields launched Commence on June 3, 2024, as her first brand: a hair-care line shaped by conversations with women in her online community and positioned for women over 40. Its three launch products have since become a six-product range listed on the brand’s website. Commence’s own performance evidence is limited to a company-reported salon-testing summary, not a publicly detailed independent study.
Why Brooke Shields started Commence
In an interview with Vogue on June 3, 2024, Shields said women in her Beginning Is Now online community talked about hair becoming brittle or thinning. She said her research led her to see a perceived gap in hair-care marketing for women over 40. That describes the founder’s motivation; it is not a quantified finding about the market or about how common hair changes are.
Shields said she wanted the brand’s message to treat this stage of life as a beginning, rather than a deficit. She also explained that “Commence” plays on the French word commencer, meaning “to begin.” The positioning is about the brand’s voice and intended audience, not evidence that its products are medically tailored to every person over 40.
What Commence launched with—and what it lists now
Commence launched with three products in June 2024. The brand’s current Our Story page lists six. Product names and availability may change, so the current list reflects what the site showed when reviewed, not a guarantee of stock.

The 2-in-1 Instant Shampoo
Vogue described this launch product as a powder-based shampoo. Shields compared its oil-absorbing format with dry shampoo while distinguishing it from conventional dry shampoo. She said it contains rice powder to absorb oil and encapsulated hyaluronic acid, and described the intended effects as lift, texture and hydration. Those ingredient and performance details are from the interview; they are not independent test findings or a guarantee of results for every user.

What Commence says about testing
Commence says its salon testing was based on a clinical study involving 30 panelists over two weeks. Its Our Story page summarizes findings for the six products it lists. The page does not state the testing year or provide participant ages and demographics, a protocol, a comparison group, statistical analysis or a full study report.
“Clinical study” is the company’s description of the basis for its salon testing. The information published on the page is not enough to assess the study independently, and it should not be read as proof that a product treats hair loss. The figures and claims here are attributed to Commence, not presented as independent clinical conclusions.

Where Commence is available
The official storefront reviewed is Commence’s own website. An Inc. profile published March 26, 2026 reported that the company was considering a potential Amazon expansion later in 2026. That is a prospective plan, not confirmation that the products are currently listed on Amazon. Check the brand’s live storefront or a retailer’s listing for current availability.
