That is a striking growth outlook, not reported revenue or proof that the stock is undervalued. The investment decision depends on whether Broadcom can turn customer demand and secured supply into sales, profits and cash flow—and on what investors pay for that possibility.
What Broadcom’s fiscal 2028 projection actually says
On an earnings call, Broadcom President and CEO Hock Tan said the company had secured supply to approximately double AI revenue to $115 billion in fiscal 2027, and described a line of sight to another doubling in fiscal 2028. His stated outlook was: “We have line of sight for fiscal 2028 AI semiconductor revenue growth to again double to $230 billion.” The Motley Fool’s September 3 report attributes the statement to Tan.

These are management expectations, not realized sales, a binding guarantee or an independently validated consensus forecast. Securing supply supports the possibility of delivering products; it does not ensure customers will deploy data-center capacity on schedule or recognize purchases when expected.
What recent results do—and do not—show
Broadcom reported $16.7 billion in AI semiconductor revenue in Q3 FY2026, up 221% year over year. It also guided to approximately $34.8 billion in total Q4 FY2026 revenue, up 93% year over year. The Q4 figure is company guidance, not a reported result. Broadcom’s Q3 FY2026 release provides these figures.

The reported AI growth and strong near-term total-revenue guidance support the view that demand is expanding quickly. But a single quarter cannot establish whether the far larger fiscal 2028 outlook will be achieved. AI semiconductor revenue is also only one part of Broadcom’s business; the Q4 guidance figure is for total revenue and should not be mistaken for an AI-revenue forecast.
Why some investors see a buying opportunity
The bullish thesis is that markets may not yet reflect the scale of AI growth implied by management’s outlook. If Broadcom converts that growth into earnings and cash flow, investors could value the company more highly. The October 4 Motley Fool article makes that case using forward earnings and valuation assumptions.
That is an investment opinion, not a company statement or an established fair-value calculation. A large revenue opportunity does not automatically make a share attractive at every price: expectations may already be reflected in the stock, and future earnings depend on margins, costs, customer orders and execution. Broadcom’s Nasdaq ticker is AVGO, as identified in its FY2025 Form 10-K.

Broadcom’s own risk disclosures flag factors that could affect forecast delivery, profitability and valuation. The company’s Q3 FY2026 release identifies risks including:
Rank #3
- Loss of significant customers, or changes in the timing and volume of customer orders.
- Semiconductor cyclicality and the possibility that demand estimates do not match actual demand.
- Dependence on contract manufacturing and a limited number of suppliers, alongside challenges in securing capacity.
- Pressure on gross margin, which could weaken the profit generated from higher sales.
- Significant indebtedness and the need to service debt, which can affect cash available for other purposes.
Deployment is a separate execution issue: even if Broadcom has supply capacity, customers still need data centers ready to use it, including the necessary land and power. A delay in customer build-outs could shift purchases and revenue away from the expected timetable.

Rather than deciding from the $230 billion headline alone, an investor can track whether results and operating conditions support the forecast path. The available figures do not establish Broadcom’s intrinsic value or a full ranking against peers, so the price paid must be judged against a dated earnings outlook and the investor’s own assumptions.

- Compare actual AI revenue with the forecast path. Track reported quarterly AI semiconductor revenue against management’s fiscal 2027 and fiscal 2028 expectations; distinguish results from guidance.
- Watch customer orders and concentration. Assess whether growth rests on durable demand or a small number of customers whose order timing and volumes could change.
- Check supply and deployment execution. Look for signs that manufacturing capacity and customer data-center readiness are keeping pace with the expected delivery schedule.
- Follow margins, cash flow and debt service. Revenue growth is more valuable to shareholders when it converts into profits and cash after investment needs and debt obligations.
- Compare the share price with a dated earnings forecast. Valuation assumptions can move quickly; an attractive business outlook is not, by itself, evidence that today’s price offers a margin of safety.
For a personal-finance decision, also consider whether a single company would make a portfolio too concentrated and whether a potential loss fits your time horizon and risk tolerance.
