Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) completed a 10-for-1 forward stock split in July 2024. The split became effective on July 12, and split-adjusted trading was expected to begin July 15. Broadcom’s official materials confirm this 2024 event but do not establish a complete history of any earlier splits.

When did Broadcom split its stock?

Broadcom announced the split on June 12, 2024. The company set out a 10-for-1 forward split: each share held before the split became ten shares afterward. Its June 12 SEC filing said stockholders of record after the market close on July 11 would receive nine additional shares for each share held after the market close on July 12. Broadcom’s June 12, 2024 Form 8-K provides the announcement and share-distribution terms.

The dates refer to different stages of the corporate action, so the record-date wording should not be confused with the date the amendment took effect or the first expected day of split-adjusted trading.

Date What happened
June 12, 2024 Broadcom announced the 10-for-1 forward split.
After the July 11, 2024 market close The announcement’s record-date wording identified stockholders of record at this point as eligible for the additional shares.
July 12, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. ET The certificate amendment implementing the split became effective. Broadcom’s later quarterly filing confirms the split was completed July 12.
July 15, 2024 Broadcom expected split-adjusted trading to begin at market open.

Broadcom’s July 12 filing says the amendment increased authorized common shares from 2.9 billion to 29 billion. That change to the company’s authorized share count is a legal-capital figure; it is not a measure of the split’s effect on an investor’s value. See Broadcom’s July 12, 2024 Form 8-K.

What did the AVGO split mean for a shareholder?

A 10-for-1 forward split multiplies the number of shares by ten while dividing the per-share price by ten in a purely mechanical adjustment, all else equal. For example, one pre-split share corresponded to ten post-split shares. The split changes the share count and per-share figures; by itself, it does not increase the shareholder’s proportional ownership or the underlying value of the investment.

Broadcom’s 2024 quarterly filing says share counts, equity awards, per-share amounts, and related stockholders’ equity balances were retroactively adjusted where applicable. This is why historical AVGO share and per-share figures in company reporting may be presented on a split-adjusted basis. Broadcom’s 2024 Form 10-Q confirms completion and describes the reporting adjustments.

Is 2024 Broadcom’s complete stock-split history?

The official materials cited here establish Broadcom’s 2024 split, but do not confirm whether the company had earlier stock splits. So, 2024 is the confirmed event covered here—not a verified complete history of every Broadcom or predecessor-company corporate action. A full historical timeline would require checking additional primary company records.

Tax and reporting considerations

Broadcom’s investor tax-information page lists an “IRS Form 8937 – BROADCOM INC” dated July 24, 2024, in connection with the split. The company advises shareholders to consult their own tax adviser about applicable consequences, including state, local, or foreign considerations. The form’s listing is not a determination of an individual investor’s tax treatment. Broadcom Investor Relations: Tax Information.
