Bristol City confirmed it had conversations with Turki Alalshikh about investment, but the available reporting does not establish an agreed takeover. Steve Lansdown has published wealth estimates from two sources; the evidence does not establish a credible, comparable personal net-worth figure for Alalshikh, so a numerical head-to-head comparison would be misleading.
What is confirmed about Bristol City takeover talks?
On 16 October 2025, BBC Sport reported that Bristol City CEO Tom Rawcliffe confirmed conversations with Alalshikh about investment. Rawcliffe said: “Yes, we had conversations with him [Alalshikh] and we are up for investment but it has to be the right investment.” He also referred to interest from US- and Middle East-based backers and said the Lansdown family wanted to sell. BBC Sport’s report described conversations, not a completed transaction or agreed takeover. [c001] [c002]
Alalshikh had denied a September 2025 report that he was going to buy Bristol City, according to the same BBC report. The distinction matters: confirmation of discussions about investment is not confirmation that a purchase was agreed. [c001]
How the takeover reports differ over time
In February 2025, Lansdown told BBC Sport the club was “not close” to a potential takeover or new investment at that time. In October, Rawcliffe confirmed conversations about investment. These are dated accounts describing different moments and formulations; the February comment does not negate the later confirmation. BBC Sport’s February report [c008] [c001]

What Steve Lansdown’s published wealth estimates say
Two published estimates offer different snapshots, not a single settled figure:
| Publisher and date | Estimate for Steve Lansdown | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| The Sunday Times Rich List, 2025 | £1.25 billion | A published estimate reported for 2025. [c003] |
| Forbes, as of 11 September 2026 | $3.2 billion | A real-time estimate displayed for Stephen Lansdown on that date. [c004] |
The figures are from different publishers, use different currencies, and refer to different dates. They should be attributed to their source rather than treated as directly interchangeable or as audited statements of personal assets. [c003] [c004]
Can Alalshikh’s wealth be compared with Lansdown’s?
Not on the evidence available here. The sources reviewed do not establish a credible, verifiable personal net-worth estimate for Alalshikh that can be compared on the same basis with Lansdown’s published estimates. An online estimate that acknowledges the absence of a public audited statement of his full personal wealth is not a sound basis for presenting a precise number. That absence is not evidence that his wealth is zero. [c005]

Nor would a personal-wealth estimate, even if one were reliable, show how much someone could or would invest in a football club. Personal net worth and the financing, terms, and scale of a particular investment are separate questions. The financial terms of any Bristol City investment were not established in the cited reporting. [c001] [c005]

Companies House records can document company filings and ownership information for Bristol City entities, but those records do not establish an owner’s personal net worth. Government statutory guidance also explains that significant influence or control can exist even when it is not obvious from share ownership or voting rights. Company control and an individual’s total personal wealth are related but distinct questions. Companies House and government guidance on people with significant control [c006] [c007]
