Turki Alalshikh denied reports that he was buying the club, although Bristol City later confirmed talks with him about investment. In August 2026, Sky News reported advanced negotiations over a possible minority stake involving Greek investor George Daskalakis and co-investor Sandford Loudon. The club has not confirmed a completed deal, and the reported talks are separate from the Saudi claim.
Is Turki Alalshikh buying Bristol City?
No purchase was confirmed. In September 2025, reports linked Saudi figure Turki Alalshikh to a Bristol City purchase. Alalshikh denied the claim, and Bristol Sport Group chief executive and club director Gavin Marshall called the takeover reports “purely speculation.” BBC Sport reported Marshall’s comments on September 18, 2025.
The denial did not mean there had been no contact. At a fans’ forum in October 2025, Bristol City chief executive Tom Rawcliffe confirmed conversations with Alalshikh about investment. Rawcliffe said, “Yes, we had conversations with him [Alalshikh] and we are up for investment but it has to be the right investment.” He added, “At the moment there’s nothing imminent, but we are well backed.” BBC Sport reported Rawcliffe’s remarks on October 16, 2025.
The distinction is important: conversations about investment do not establish that Alalshikh made a bid, agreed terms or bought the club. The later reported investment talks involving Daskalakis and Loudon are a separate story, not confirmation of a Saudi takeover.

What is the latest Bristol City investor news?
On August 19, 2026, Sky News reported that George Daskalakis, co-founder and chief executive of Greek gaming company Kaizen Gaming, and co-investor Sandford Loudon were in advanced negotiations with owner Steve Lansdown over a minority stake. The report did not establish the price, share percentage, control rights or whether the discussions included a route to majority control. Bristol City and the investor group declined to comment to Sky. Sky News reported the negotiations on August 19, 2026.
On August 25, the BBC described investment reports as speculation and quoted club chief executive Charlie Boss as saying the club would announce an agreement if Lansdown agreed terms. That was not confirmation that terms had been agreed or a deal completed. BBC Sport reported Boss’s comments on August 25, 2026.
So the most precise description is: advanced minority-stake negotiations were reported, but there is no cited confirmation of a signed or completed transaction. A reported negotiation is not the same as an official announcement.
What has Steve Lansdown said about selling or taking investment?
Lansdown has said he is open to investment or a sale if the terms and buyer are right, while emphasizing that he does not want the club exposed to financial risk through leverage. In a February 2025 BBC interview, he said, “We’re not close,” and, “I’m not going to pass this football club on to somebody who’s going to leverage it.” He also said the club was speaking with people and was open to partners for the Sporting Quarter, investment alongside the owners, or a buyer for the wider sporting operation. BBC Sport reported Lansdown’s comments on February 24, 2025.
That stance is openness, not a promise to sell. Lansdown’s comments do not establish that he accepted an offer from Daskalakis and Loudon or that any proposed investor would take control.

Why “Bristol City takeover” can mean different things
Bristol City operates under Bristol Sport, which also includes Bristol Bears’ men’s and women’s rugby teams and Bristol Flyers basketball. Lansdown has discussed potential arrangements involving the Sporting Quarter development, investment in individual sporting clubs, or the wider sporting operation. As a result, a headline about a Bristol City investment may not reveal which assets or rights are actually under discussion.
The women’s football team’s September 2025 sale to Mercury13 was a separate transaction. It should not be treated as evidence that the men’s club was sold or that a Saudi bid for the men’s side succeeded. BBC Sport’s September 18, 2025 report distinguished the women’s sale from the men’s-club takeover speculation.
What the club’s finances do—and do not—show
In January 2026, Lansdown said the club could not do everything immediately and described a gap between income and outgoings, particularly wages. BBC Sport reported Bristol City’s pre-tax loss of £18.6 million for the 2024–25 season and said Lansdown had invested more than £280 million cumulatively. The figures provide financial context, but they do not establish the club’s valuation, prove that a sale is necessary or tell supporters what terms an investor might offer. BBC Sport reported the financial context on January 31, 2026.

Supporters assessing any future announcement should look for the terms that distinguish an investment from a takeover:
- Ownership share: Is the investor taking a minority stake or majority ownership?
- Assets covered: Does the deal concern Bristol City’s men’s team alone, another Bristol Sport business, or a wider group of assets?
- Control: What governance, voting or decision-making rights come with the stake?
- Funding and debt: Is the investment funded with new capital, borrowing or another structure, and would it expose the club to leverage?
- Deal status: Are terms merely being discussed, signed, approved, or completed?
Until an official announcement supplies those details, neither the Saudi purchase claim nor the reported Daskalakis-Loudon negotiations should be presented as a completed Bristol City takeover.
