Paramount announced a five-year South Park renewal in July 2025 covering 50 new episodes and the show’s previous seasons, with the series continuing on Comedy Central and Paramount+. The $1.5 billion price often attached to the deal was reported by the Los Angeles Times; Paramount’s announcement did not disclose a dollar amount.
What Paramount announced in 2025
On July 23, 2025, Paramount Global, Park County and South Park Digital Studios announced a five-year renewal with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The official announcement set out these terms:

The announcement does not state a dollar value or specify that new episodes will arrive at a particular rate each year. Paramount’s release is the source for the publicly announced package terms.
Why headlines say $1.5 billion
The Los Angeles Times reported that the five-year agreement was valued at $1.5 billion, citing people close to the deal. It described the streaming-rights portion as worth $300 million a year for five years. Those are reported figures, not a price disclosed by Paramount in its public announcement. The Times also reported that Park County would produce 10 episodes annually, a cadence not specified in the official release. Read the Times report.

The reported $300 million annual figure refers to global streaming rights, not necessarily the entire cost of producing and distributing the show. The reviewed public accounts do not establish the complete contract, its payment schedule, detailed rights carve-outs, or how the reported valuation is allocated between rights and production. It is therefore more accurate to call $1.5 billion a reported deal valuation than a confirmed public purchase price.
How the 2025 package compares with the earlier Paramount deal
The renewal followed a substantial earlier agreement. Paramount’s 2022 announcement said South Park was extended on Comedy Central through 2027 and through a 30th season, with 14 original made-for-streaming events planned for Paramount+. It also described a plan for Paramount+ to become the global exclusive subscription-streaming home for the catalog in 2025. That was the earlier arrangement’s announced plan, not a description of the new five-year renewal’s end date. Paramount’s 2022 announcement provides those details.

South Park Studios’ May 2022 notice likewise described renewal through the 30th season and the planned global catalog role for Paramount+ beginning in 2025.
What the reported HBO Max negotiations add—and what they do not prove
The Times reported that the prior HBO Max agreement expired in late June 2025. It said Paramount offered Warner Bros. Discovery an option to co-license the show, but those talks fell apart before Paramount proceeded alone. The same report said Park County was entitled to nearly half of South Park streaming revenue through its joint venture with Paramount, South Park Digital Studios. These are details reported by the Times, not terms set out in Paramount’s announcement. The Times report supplies this context.
