Brazil’s corn exports were running ahead of the previous year through July 2026, but the crop still had to move through concentrated port corridors and regionally uneven freight markets. That makes “challenging” a description of the logistics and the task of selling a large crop—not evidence that exports had fallen or that Brazil failed to ship its harvest.
What do the 2026 export figures show?
Brazil exported 9.8 million tonnes of corn from January through July 2026, 10.53% more than in the same period of 2025, according to CONAB figures reported by Agência Gov. This is a cumulative seven-month figure, not a full-season total, so it does not establish how much Brazil ultimately exported for the year.
The reported shipments were concentrated in a few corridors. The Arco Norte handled 46.12% of corn exports from January through July, while Santos handled 22.27%, according to the same CONAB-linked report. Those shares make the capacity and timing of key routes important to the export outlook, but they do not by themselves show that either route was unable to handle its share.
Why can moving the crop be challenging?
Freight conditions differed by route
CONAB-linked reporting described varied road-freight movements rather than one national price trend. In July 2026, quotes fell on 18 of 25 surveyed Mato Grosso routes compared with June, with route-level declines of up to 11%; some other quotes rose by up to 4%. The report also described freight levels as elevated in the context of the 2025/26 grain crop.

Some Paraná routes saw increases as second-crop corn and soybean exports affected transport flows. The regional differences matter: a decline on many surveyed Mato Grosso routes cannot be taken to mean that freight became cheaper everywhere, just as increases on some Paraná routes do not establish a nationwide rise.
Export concentration makes timing consequential
With the Arco Norte and Santos accounting for the largest reported shares, export performance depends in part on coordinating inland transport with port access and shipment timing. The available figures identify that concentration, but do not quantify port delays, congestion, or a resulting loss of export volume. It would therefore be inaccurate to treat route concentration alone as proof of a failed export season.

Does Brazil have a confirmed bumper crop?
“Bumper crop” is not established by the available 2026/27 outlook figures. For the preceding 2025/26 crop, two agencies published different production estimates, reflecting separate outlooks rather than a settled final result:

The CONAB and USDA FAS figures should not be averaged or presented as if they were successive measurements of one settled number. They come from different agencies and publication vintages, and the figures are estimates or forecasts. CONAB’s 138.3-million-tonne production estimate is higher than the USDA FAS estimate, but that difference does not establish which estimate proved closer to the final crop.

Why does a large harvest not equal exportable surplus?
Production must first cover domestic demand as well as exports and stocks. In its 2025/26 outlook, CONAB forecast domestic corn use of 94.6 million tonnes alongside exports of 46.5 million tonnes and ending stocks of 11.7 million tonnes. These are forecast balance-sheet figures, not final outcomes. They illustrate why the size of a harvest alone cannot determine how much corn is available for export.
Which season do the export and crop-year numbers describe?
Different reporting calendars can make figures look inconsistent even when they refer to different periods. The USDA FAS report defines Brazil’s corn marketing year as March through February and its trade year as October through September. The 9.8-million-tonne export figure, by contrast, is explicitly a January-through-July 2026 cumulative total. It should not be compared with a full marketing-year or trade-year total without aligning the dates and definitions.

What is known about the next outlook?
CONAB’s 2026/27 outlook page was published on September 15, 2026, and updated on October 2. The available figures do not establish a verified 2026/27 corn export total or confirm a bumper crop for that season. Until a clearly attributed balance is available, the defensible description is that Brazil’s exports were growing year over year through July 2026 while the full-season result and next-crop balance remained unsettled.
