Founded by Steve Johnson in 2008, the company developed, manufactured, and marketed talc-based and related agricultural products. BRANDT described its range as including flagship talc products, micronutrients, microbials, inoculants, and a proprietary mixing system.
BRANDT said these products and technologies complemented its existing nutrition and plant-health portfolio. The company also said Talc USA supplied products across the United States and to Canada, Mexico, Ukraine, and South Africa. That describes the footprint reported in 2022, not a verified current distribution map. The announcement did not quantify realized synergies or independently establish agronomic performance claims.
How the deal was structured
BRANDT said Talc USA would operate as a BRANDT company within the Specialty Formulations business unit. All employees would be retained, while Talc USA’s management would continue running the business day to day.

The transaction release states only that BRANDT acquired a “majority interest.” It gives neither an exact stake percentage nor a purchase price, so those figures cannot be determined from the announcement.

BRANDT framed the acquisition as a way to add product lines and technologies to its nutrition and plant-health offerings. President and CEO Rick Brandt said the companies shared a belief in “maximizing plants’ potential and increasing farmers’ ROI through good science, quality products and world-class service.” Talc USA founder Steve Johnson said the transaction would make the company part of a global organization, provide certainty for employees, and enable continued growth and service to farmer customers. Later manufacturing plan in Illinois
On April 8, 2024, BRANDT announced it was preparing a production facility in Curran, Illinois. The company targeted completion in the third quarter of 2024 and said the facility was intended to supply the 2025 planting season. BRANDT described the move as a way to increase domestic capacity and reduce shipping costs.
The same announcement said the facility would require five to eight additional full-time employees when fully staffed. Both the staffing figure and timeline were forecasts. BRANDT’s announcement describes a plan; it does not confirm that the production line was completed on schedule or establish its current operating status. It also referenced the HomeLAND planter-box line for corn and soybeans. BRANDT’s April 2024 production announcement contains those details.
