Sapphire Sport led the round. Later Japan announcements show activity in specific markets, but they do not establish that every expansion goal set in 2024 was reached.
What the $19 million round was meant to fund
TechCrunch reported on November 12, 2024, that Sapphire Sport led Bounce’s Series B. It named existing investors Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst, and new investors 20VC Growth, FJ Labs, Shilling, and Thayer Ventures. In a December 4, 2024 company announcement, Bounce Japan also named Yamato Holdings and KDDI among new investors. These are the participants named by those sources, not necessarily an exhaustive investor list.
The company’s stated plan was to expand its local-business storage network and add service verticals. In the TechCrunch interview, co-founder and CEO Cody Candee singled out Asia-Pacific as a major focus, citing regional revenue growth. He also said user searches help Bounce decide where demand may justify expansion. These were strategic intentions at the time of the round, not proof of completed expansion across every target market.
How Bounce’s traveler-convenience network works
Bounce connects travelers who need a place for their bags with nearby businesses that have physical premises and spare storage space. The businesses hold the bags, while Bounce brings them customers and shares revenue with its location partners, according to the 2024 TechCrunch report. Railway stations were cited as examples of areas where travelers may need convenient storage.

The proposition for a traveler is practical: find a participating location near an arrival point or destination, arrange storage, and retrieve the bags later. The exact locations and available service details depend on the market and listing; the financing announcement itself does not establish current prices, opening hours, bag limits, or protection terms.
Hotels and services beyond bag storage
The 2024 report also described a hotel-oriented product. Candee said more than 100 hotels were then using Bounce to offer storage to guests, either as a paid add-on or at no charge. That is a dated CEO statement, not a current hotel count.

Candee discussed shipping, delivery, and other integrations as possible longer-term extensions. The vision was for Bounce to connect more travel needs through integrations, not to claim that Bounce itself operated every delivery service or had already launched a complete travel-services ecosystem. He described the longer-term ambition as “cloud storage for the physical world.”
What later announcements show—and where
Two 2026 announcements provide dated evidence of subsequent activity in Japan. They are useful indicators of expansion in that country, but neither should be read as a global network total.

- Japan-wide partner count: Bounce Japan said on May 11, 2026, that it had more than 2,000 domestic partner locations, including cafés, hotels, commercial facilities, and tourist information centers. This is a company-reported Japan figure. The company also said its partner offer uses spare space without initial fees.
- Tokyo-area integration: Bounce Japan and JR East Smart Logistics announced on April 13, 2026, that Bounce bag-storage acceptance would begin at 113 Multi-Ecube locations in the Tokyo metropolitan area on April 14. That announcement concerns those locations, not coverage throughout Japan.
Other announcements illustrate how integrations can bring Bounce into existing travel flows. In October 2024, Bounce said guests using UpMarket vacation-rental check-in in Portugal could access more than 370 Bounce locations there. A Bounce and Priority Pass partnership page describes storage booking as a member travel benefit and displays more than 32,000 spots across more than 4,000 cities. Those are page-presented figures and can change; the page does not establish that every Priority Pass member, location, or booking is eligible under identical terms.

The round was a funding event tied to a growth strategy, not evidence by itself that the strategy succeeded. Several figures from the 2024 coverage are historical company or executive claims: Candee said more than one million people visited Bounce’s website or app each month, and the company’s December 2024 announcement reported more than 13,000 partner locations globally. Neither number should be treated as a verified current measurement.

Candee also described the network-growth approach as “quality, not quantity,” with locations prioritized around traveler demand. The 2026 Japan announcements show specific examples of later expansion and distribution, but available figures remain geographically distinct: the 2,000-plus count is for Japan, the 113 figure is for designated Tokyo-area Multi-Ecube locations, and the Priority Pass page’s larger figures are its own changeable display.
For a traveler deciding where to leave a bag before check-in or after checkout, the relevant evidence is the particular listing and current booking terms—not the size of a company-wide or country-wide network. For investors and observers, the clearest supported reading is that Bounce used the 2024 round to pursue a two-part strategy: broaden the places travelers can store bags and connect storage to adjacent travel services.
