Separately, Bolt’s “SuperApp,” which Breslow announced as a plan in March 2025, was announced as launched that September.
What was Ryan Breslow’s $30 million personal loan?
The loan became a dispute over the boundary between Breslow’s personal finances and Bolt’s corporate finances. In a March 2025 account of Breslow’s comments at Fintech Meetup, TechCrunch reported that he said he took a personal loan instead of selling stock and that Bolt’s board unanimously approved it. Breslow described his rationale as loyalty to the company: “It was done to be pro-Bolt,” he said. TechCrunch’s March 11, 2025 report attributes those statements to Breslow; they are his account, not an independent finding about the loan’s terms or handling.
Activant Capital, then an investor in Bolt, offered a different account in its lawsuit. TechCrunch summarized Activant’s allegation that the borrowing put $30 million of debt on Bolt’s balance sheet and that company funds were used to pay it back. Those are allegations, not established findings in the reporting cited here. The underlying court filings and settlement documents were not reviewed for this account. What happened to Activant’s lawsuit?
TechCrunch reported that Bolt settled the dispute in 2024 by agreeing to repurchase Activant’s shares for $37 million. A settlement resolves the dispute between the parties, but it is not the same as a judicial ruling on whether Activant’s allegations were true. The reported share-purchase amount is not a court-assessed value of the loan or a finding of wrongdoing. TechCrunch reported the settlement and share repurchase.

What is Bolt’s SuperApp?
In March 2025, Breslow described a planned app that would combine financial services, peer-to-peer payments, crypto, cards and other financial products. “Instead of one-click checkout, we’re going to have one-click everything: financial services, peer-to-peer, crypto, cards, financial products, all in one app,” he said, according to TechCrunch. At that point it was an announced plan, not a launched product.
Bolt announced the SuperApp’s launch on September 25, 2025. Its release described a service bringing together digital banking, crypto trading, peer-to-peer transfers, commerce and rewards. The difference matters: the March announcement set out a vision, while the September release was Bolt’s own account of a launch. The release is not independent testing of the features or confirmation that they remain available today. Bolt’s September 25, 2025 launch announcement called the product an integrated money-and-commerce experience.

Features Bolt said were included at launch
Bolt’s announcement described an account for fiat and crypto transactions, peer-to-peer payments and direct deposit. It said customers could fund accounts through ACH using Plaid, access cash at Allpoint ATMs, and receive virtual debit cards after completing KYC identity verification; physical cards were optional. It also listed card controls, crypto trading and rewards categories. Bolt named Midland States Bank as its banking services provider and Zero Hash as its crypto infrastructure provider. These details are the company’s September 2025 descriptions, not independent confirmation of current access or operation.
Bolt said crypto trading was available in all U.S. states except New York. The release also said the service supported more than 40 cryptocurrencies and described Bolt’s broader network as having more than 80 million shoppers. Those are company-reported figures from the launch announcement, not independently audited current counts. Readers should not assume the state availability, asset list, network size or feature set is unchanged since that release.

How does Bolt’s financing fit into the company’s current picture?
TechCrunch reported on August 31, 2026, that Bolt was seeking up to $27 million in bridge financing and that Breslow had committed $5 million personally. The report described a fundraising effort, not a completed round; it also left the round’s outcome and Bolt’s cash position uncertain. Treat both figures as reported proposed financing terms as of that date, not as money confirmed to have closed. TechCrunch’s August 31, 2026 report is the latest status cited here.
The proposed bridge round should not be confused with an earlier financing attempt: Axios reported in March 2025 that Bolt did not complete the controversial earlier proposal. Axios reported that outcome. The available later report does not establish whether the bridge round ultimately reached its target.
