Did Boeing’s 25% offer avoid a strike?
No. On September 8, 2024, Boeing announced a tentative agreement with IAM Districts 751 and W24, which the company said represented more than 33,000 employees. The union’s summary described the initial offer as providing 25% in general wage increases over four years. Boeing also cited lower medical cost sharing, retirement contributions and a future-airplane commitment.
IAM members rejected that offer and went on strike. The union said the strike lasted nearly two months. Members ratified a new agreement on November 4, 2024; it was not the same package Boeing had announced in September. Boeing’s September 8 announcement and IAM District 751’s account of the ratified deal establish the distinction between the original offer and the final contract.
Was the raise 25% or 38%?
Both figures describe different stages of negotiations. IAM District 751’s summary of the September tentative offer listed 25% in general wage increases over four years. IAM reported that the November agreement ratified by members provided 38% over four years—13%, 9%, 9% and 7%—which the union calculated as 43.65% compounded.

The wage percentages are union-reported contract terms, not estimates of a worker’s individual take-home pay. The 43.65% figure is the compounded result IAM reported for the scheduled increases; it is not a separate additional raise on top of the 38% total.
What did “build the next jet in Seattle” mean?
Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope said the company’s team in the Puget Sound region would build Boeing’s “next new airplane.” That public statement referred to a region, not a named Seattle factory or a particular aircraft model.

The union’s summary of the original offer states the condition more precisely: the next commercial-airplane program was secured for members in Puget Sound and Portland if launched during the life of the agreement. IAM listed the original agreement term as September 7, 2024, through September 7, 2028. In other words, the commitment depended on a qualifying program launching within that contract window; it was not confirmation that Boeing had selected or launched a new airplane.
The available announcements do not name the airplane or establish that a qualifying program was later launched. The claim should therefore be read as a conditional regional production commitment, not a guarantee that a specific jet would be built in Seattle.

What changed between the offer and the final deal?
The clearest change documented by the cited union accounts is the wage increase: from 25% in the September offer to 38% in the November ratified agreement. IAM also reported the final agreement’s $12,000 ratification bonus, reinstated AMPP incentive plan with a 4% minimum annual payout, and 401(k) match of 100% up to 8%. The cited summaries do not provide enough detail for a complete clause-by-clause comparison of every benefit or contract provision.
For personal-finance purposes, the distinction matters: the 25% figure was not the raise workers ultimately ratified, and a percentage increase in scheduled wages does not by itself state an employee’s net pay after taxes, benefit costs or individual circumstances.
