The reported halt was temporary: Bloomberg reported on May 13, 2025, that China had removed the pause after a trade truce. The episode is historical, not a newly reported 2026 restriction.
What China reportedly told its airlines
Bloomberg reported on April 15, 2025, citing people familiar with the matter, that Chinese airlines had been ordered not to accept further Boeing aircraft deliveries. The report placed the move amid the tariff exchange between Washington and Beijing. The available reporting does not include a public written Chinese government order, so the instruction and its scope should be described as reported rather than independently confirmed policy. Bloomberg’s April 15 report.
Bloomberg also reported that Chinese carriers were asked to pause purchases of aircraft-related equipment and parts from U.S. companies. That detail, too, comes from the report’s unnamed sources; it should not be treated as a publicly verified directive.
Why Boeing shares fell—and what the price means
Reuters reported that Boeing shares were down about 2.6% at $155.01 in premarket trading on April 15, after Bloomberg’s story. That is a dated premarket snapshot, not Boeing’s closing price that day or a current share price. The timing indicates an immediate market reaction to the report, but the figure alone does not establish that the China news caused all subsequent movement in the stock. Which airline delivery plans were at stake
Reuters reported that three major Chinese carriers had plans to take Boeing aircraft during 2025–2027. These were forward-looking plans, not proof that the aircraft were delivered, cancelled, or converted into a specific financial loss.
| Airline | Planned Boeing deliveries for 2025–2027, as reported by Reuters | What the figure establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Air China | 45 | A reported plan; not a confirmed delivery or cancellation count |
| China Eastern Airlines | 53 | A reported plan; not a confirmed delivery or cancellation count |
| China Southern Airlines | 81 | A reported plan; not a confirmed delivery or cancellation count |
Reuters reported these planned delivery figures. Plans and delivery outcomes are different measures; the numbers should not be added to a claim about completed or lost sales without evidence of what ultimately happened to each aircraft.

What Boeing said about aircraft already prepared for China
In an April 23, 2025 interview, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said the company had aircraft ready for China and was evaluating whether to redirect some planes. The Associated Press reported that Boeing had brought two of three aircraft in China ready for delivery back to Seattle because customers had stopped taking deliveries in the tariff environment. This describes Boeing’s response at that point in the episode; it does not establish the final destination or delivery outcome for each aircraft. The Associated Press report on Ortberg’s comments.
China later lifted the reported pause
On May 13, 2025, Bloomberg reported that China had removed the month-long delivery pause following a trade truce, with officials telling domestic carriers and government agencies that deliveries could resume. That update changes the meaning of the April headline: it describes a temporary interruption reported during a tariff dispute, not an ongoing ban. Bloomberg’s May 13 update.

How the episode fits with Boeing’s later results
Boeing’s second-quarter 2026 results, released July 28, 2026, reported $24.6 billion in revenue, 171 commercial deliveries, and a record total-company backlog of $715 billion, including more than 6,200 commercial airplanes. These are company-reported figures for that quarter and a later business snapshot; they do not show that the 2025 China episode caused Boeing’s subsequent performance. Boeing’s Q2 2026 results.
