Boeing valued the combined awards at $461 million and said they brought the number of Block II aircraft under contract to 18. The figure is the combined value Boeing reported—not a disclosed price for each helicopter or for either lot separately.
What the $461 million order includes
Boeing’s October 21, 2025 announcement describes nine aircraft procured through two contract awards for Lots 4 and 5, with a combined value of $461 million. Boeing said the awards increased the number of CH-47F Block II aircraft under contract to 18. Boeing’s announcement does not break out the value of each lot or provide a delivery schedule for these nine helicopters.
Reuters also reported the $461 million headline figure, attributing the order details to Boeing; that does not establish that Reuters independently verified contract documents. Reuters’ report likewise does not supply separate prices for Lots 4 and 5.
What the Army’s Block II plan is meant to do
The CH-47F Block II is a modernization of existing CH-47F Block I helicopters, rather than a wholly new aircraft family. In a September 30, 2025 article, the Army said its decision authorized procurement in fiscal years 2025 and 2026. Along with previously approved, Congressionally directed procurement, the approach was intended to equip two Combat Aviation Brigades with Block II aircraft. The Army described the modernization as increasing payload, extending range and improving sustainability for contested logistics environments.

The Army gave the Block II a maximum gross weight of 54,000 pounds. That is the aircraft’s stated maximum gross weight, not a payload figure. Army maintenance test pilot Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jordan Brooks explained the operational significance: “With the Block II Chinook’s increased gross weight and increased torque available, we can carry more.”
Boeing describes the aircraft’s changes as a strengthened drivetrain and airframe that add 4,000 pounds to maximum gross weight, fuel-system changes that extend mission radius for nearly all payloads, and sustainment improvements intended to support future upgrades. Those design details are Boeing’s characterization of the aircraft. Boeing vice president and program manager Heather McBryan said the rapid succession of contracts indicated the Chinook would continue to play a role in the Army’s family of systems, particularly in contested logistics.

How the later Lot 6 award changed the total
By April 16, 2026, Boeing had reported another Army award: six aircraft for Lot 6, valued at $324 million. Boeing said this raised the number of Block II aircraft under contract to 24. It also said the Army was preparing to field its first equipped unit no later than mid-2028, following delivery of Lot 3 aircraft. These contract and fielding figures are Boeing’s reported figures, not a schedule for the nine aircraft in the earlier Lots 4 and 5 awards. Boeing’s Lot 6 announcement provides the update.
